Join Sunday Vacations for a beautiful autumn hiking experience in the Valley of the Hoëgne, one of the most atmospheric river valleys in the Belgian Ardennes.
Imagine walking through colourful forests, following a winding river, crossing rustic wooden bridges and discovering small waterfalls hidden among moss-covered rocks.
The sound of flowing water, the fresh forest air and the colours of autumn create a wonderful setting to disconnect from everyday routines.
But this experience is about more than hiking.
It's also about meeting interesting people, sharing. conversations along the trail and enjoying a Sunday surrounded by nature and good company.

Whether you're new to Brussels, an international professional, a local nature lover or simply looking to expand your social circle, you're welcome to join us.
Solo participants are especially welcome — many Sunday Vacations friendships begin with a simple hello on the trail.
🌿 The Experience
The Valley of the Hoëgne, near Jalhay in the Belgian Ardennes, is known for its enchanting riverside paths, rocky woodland scenery and cascading streams.
In early November, the landscape can be particularly atmospheric, with the last autumn leaves covering the forest floor and seasonal rainfall bringing energy to the river.
Our approximately 10 km circular hike follows scenic woodland and riverside trails, with time to enjoy the surroundings, take photographs and connect with fellow participants.
The route includes uneven terrain, slippery rocks, roots and potentially muddy sections. Some passages require careful footing.
This is a moderate hike with technical sections, suitable for people with reasonable hiking fitness and experience walking on natural trails.
We'll aim for a friendly, supportive group atmosphere while maintaining a pace appropriate for the terrain and daylight conditions.

The following is a provisional itinerary. Exact times will be communicated to confirmed participants
Morning | Meeting & Welcome
We'll meet at the confirmed gathering point, introduce ourselves and review the route and safety information
Hike Begins | Into the Hoëgne Valley
Our adventure begins as we follow woodland trails towards the river, enjoying the scenery and getting to know one another
Along the Trail | Forests, Bridges & Cascade
We'll explore the river valley, taking short breaks for photographs, water and snacks
Midway | Nature & Picnic Break
We'll pause at a suitable location for a packed lunch and some relaxed conversation
Afternoon | Completing the Loop
We'll continue through the forest and return to our starting point, aiming to finish comfortably before sunset
Total walking distance: Approximately 10 k
Estimated group trail time: 4–5 hours, including break
Difficulty: Moderate, with technical and potentially slippery section
📍 Meeting Point & Transportation
Destination: Valley of the Hoëgne, Jalhay, Belgium
The exact trailhead, meeting time and transport arrangements will be communicated after organisational confirmation
Participants may travel independently or coordinate shared transport where available
If carpooling is organised, any contribution towards fuel or parking will be agreed directly between the people sharing the vehicle
Important: Transport is not included unless explicitly confirmed. Sunday Vacations does not act as a transport provider
💚 Participation & Community Contribution
Participation contribution: 5 eur (free for Ambassador , Voyager members)
Any community contribution will be clearly communicated before registration is finalised.
Unless otherwise specified, the contribution supports community coordination and event-related organisational expenses. It does not constitute the purchase of a travel package.
Participants remain responsible for their personal transport, food, drinks and other individual expenses.

Please note: This route is not recommended for complete hiking beginners or people uncomfortable walking on slippery, uneven terrain

- 🥾 Waterproof hiking boots with good grip — strongly recommended
- 🧥 Warm layers and a waterproof jacket

- 🧤 Hat and gloves if temperatures are low
- 🩹 Personal medication and basic first-aid essentials

- 🥢 Hiking poles, if helpful for balance on slippery terrain
⚠️ Important Information
Weather & Trail Safety
November conditions in the Ardennes can change quickly
Rain, high river levels, flooding, slippery rocks, ice or damaged bridges may make parts of the trail unsafe
For everyone's safety, the organisers may modify, shorten, postpone or cancel the hike if conditions are unsuitable
Fitness & Responsibility
Participants should be comfortable walking approximately 10 km on uneven, occasionally steep or slippery terrain
Everyone is expected to follow safety instructions, respect the natural environment and remain with the group
Small Group Experience
We aim to keep the group to approximately 15 people, including hosts, to encourage interaction and support safe group coordination
Attendance is subject to final organiser confirmation
Leave No Trace
Please respect the forest, wildlife and other trail users. Take your rubbish home and remain on designated paths

Sunday Vacations is a community initiative operated by UJAMAA ASBL, a Brussels-based nonprofit association.
The activity is a community hiking experience coordinated by volunteers, not a commercial travel package.
Any independent transport, food or other third-party services are arranged separately and remain subject to the terms and responsibilities of the respective providers
Participants are responsible for assessing their own physical ability, wearing appropriate equipment and arranging suitable personal insurance.
Activities are organised by volunteers and covered under the COCOF volunteer insurance framework.
This framework concerns eligible volunteer activities and does not automatically provide personal accident or travel insurance for every participant. Applicable coverage is subject to the insurer's conditions and confirmation.
VAT not applicable – small business exemption scheme, Article 56bis Belgian VAT Code, where applicable.
