Tampa Bay Cycling Meetup and Facebook Group

This is not an event but a important safety message for our riders. This message was originally posted by the North Carolina CBC riding group, one of the largest riding groups in NC.

You might think, “I’m healthy and have no medical issues — why wear an ID?” Because cycling comes with risks you can’t fully control. In a crisis, you don’t want to give confused or incomplete information.
Wearing an ID on your ankle, wrist, or around your neck gives first responders instant, accurate details. Even something simple like NKDA (No Known Drug Allergies) helps them treat you quickly. If you’re diabetic, on blood thinners, or have allergies, that should be listed too. It will be the first question from EMTs.
Your name and emergency contact are just as important. On group rides, we often don’t know everyone’s full name — and a crisis is not the time to figure that out. During a recent severe crash, we could not identify the rider, BUT he had a RoadID on his shoe with his wife's phone number. Smart dude!
So invest in an ID you’ll actually wear. I use a Road iD that attaches to my shoes, but the brand doesn’t matter — consistency does. ;-)

Tour de Golf Courses: Temple Terrace Edition (Tampa)

Distance: 25 miles

We'll meet at the Cracked Pepper Cafe [2901 W Busch Blvd Ste 1020, Tampa, FL 33618] in the parking lot behind the building in the spaces facing Busch Blvd (in the area of buildings 900 and 1000).

Ride Description: The route will start from the parking lot for the Cracked Pepper Cafe. We'll head east through Forest Hills and parts of the Babe Zaharias Golf Course. Then we'll head out to Temple Terrace where we'll do a 10-ish mile tour around the City of Temple Terrace Golf & Country Club. Then, we'll return to the Cracked Pepper Cafe where we'll gorge ourselves on some really good food. **This ride is 100% on streets.**

Please be prepared with plenty of fluids/hydration, a snack & a spare tube/flat kit.

We are recreational bicyclists. Rides start from different locations in Tampa Bay led by volunteers. You must wear a helmet and exhibit safe riding. Cyclists are subject to the same traffic laws as drivers.

We will enter the Ream Wilson Trail at the Cliff Stevens parking lot and proceed towards Safety Harbor pedaling along the waterfront all the way to Philippi Park. This ride is about an hour but we can add more miles if interested. Pace 12-13. breakfast stop possible.

I understand that the activities herein involve certain dangers and risks which I am prepared to fully assume for myself and all children accompanying me. I will abide by all laws and regulations and agree to participate in a safe and prudent manner. In addition, I agree to waive all claims which I, or any member of my family, or my heirs, executors or assigns, may have against this meetup or its agents for damages or injury sustained as the result of participating in the physical activity.

We are volunteers, not professional hosts, leaders, medical personnel, cartographers, weather forecasters or mechanics, coaches or psychologists, just folks who enjoy group events with like-minded peers :) . You are totally responsible for your own equipment, personal skill level, health, personal safety and decisions.

We in our sole discretion may choose whom to accept or remove from this meetup group.

No shows, negative or adversarial comments, posts or actions will result in removal and banning of the offending party.

Bright clothing,

front & rear lights are very good to have .

Rains or excessive winds may cause cancellation. Check back day of event.
