Thank you Caroline for hosting August.
Ready Player One is the debut novel for Ernest Cline. Published in 2011, it was a New York Times bestseller and, in 2018, was made into a movie. It is set in the dystopian future of 2045 where the protagonist searches for an ‘Easter egg’ in a virtual reality game. Rebecca Serle of HuffPost described the book as "the grown-up's Harry Potter" and that it "has it all – nostalgia, trivia, adventure, romance, heart and, dare I say it, some very fascinating social commentary.”
I will admit other than PacMan or Tetras,oh, and Space Invaders, I’m not a video gamer. But I throughly enjoyed this book so I hope members will dive into the book and the sure-to-be interesting discussion in August.
Book club discussion starts promptly at 6:30pm but feel free to come around 6pm to eat dinner with the early attendees. Look for us at the big table to the left of the entrance. Or if the table taken, we will be in the back . We welcome new members and are always happy to see returning members.
