About us

The South Shore Writing Initiative is a collaborative writing workshop based on the South Shore and open to writers who are looking to develop their craft and join a supportive, engaged community.

Originally founded by Colin McMahon in 2016, SSWI began as an instructional workshop with a mission to make writing instruction more accessible to those who might not otherwise have access to formal education in the craft. Over time, SSWI has evolved into a community-driven workshop built on participation, discussion, and shared creative growth.

Our group focuses on creative writing and brings together writers with any level of experience to explore storytelling through discussion, feedback, and workshopping. Sessions are designed to help writers improve their work and better understand the fundamentals of building a story.

Members are encouraged to regularly attend, read each other's work, and offer thoughtful, constructive feedback. While sharing your own writing is not required, it is strongly encouraged as part of the workshop experience.

We are committed to making this a safe space for writers to hone their craft within a supportive community. Respect, confidentiality, and originality are essential to maintaining that environment, and we value the diverse perspectives each writer brings to the group. We welcome and encourage writers from all backgrounds to join us!

For any questions regarding the group, please send a message to our email address: southshorewritinginiative@gmail.com.
