What we’re about

This meetup group is an extension of Up The Creek Rec. & Ski Club. Up The Creek is a non-profit year round recreation & ski club that has been in existence for over 35 years. We are run by volunteers and have various weekend and day events in summer and winter. In the winter, ski and snowboarding among other activities . In the summer we have boating and camping trips, weekly hiking, biking, volleyball, and tennis groups. We have numerous parties throughout the year and have a happy hour every Friday at a different bar or restaurant in the Denver metro Area. However, the best part is that it is a flexible club that always welcomes new ideas, places and activities including volunteer work. You don’t have to be a member to attend any of our events, guests are always welcome! Membership is currently over 500. See our main website at www.upthecreek.org

The Summer BBQ's are back for Weekends 5/24 through 9/13 so see details below.
These weekend events will be setup on UTC Meetup for you to inquire and hopefully RSVP after you have setup a User ID and Password. It is important that people RSVP to ensure we have enough players for these events. If for some reason you can not RSVP on UTC Meetup, you can always RSVP via my e-mail ktrinkaus@comcast.net or text being 303-829-2135. We will also be setting these events up on the UTC Calendar on upthecreek.org for the info benefit of all, but will not be tracking RSVP’s on this site.
We are heading to Central Denver for the Mile High Weekend Matinee’s
For the second time, the "O" Park (our Summertime Easy-In / Easy-Out with Rainbow Shade)
Sunday Summer V-Ball continues at the below location:
Observatory Park – (South Side)
Across from Personal Residence at – Looking East (do not ring residence)
2257 Filmore
Denver, CO 80210
Observatory Park is located on Evans Avenue between Filmore & Milwaukee (East of DU & West of I-25)
We will meet on the South side of the Park at the Southeast corner of Warren & Filmore and 100 Yards southeast into the open field with very nice shade trees. Parking should be allowed on most nearby neighborhood streets, but verify the street signs. Look for our Yellow & Black Park & Sun Net and our Up The Creek Cardboard sign. Call me if you are lost on my cell phone # (303) 829-2135.
A Volleyball Ho Down is brewing in the swanky neighborhood of Observatory Park so come catch all the drama and excitement !!! Just as a heads up, we will be grilling brats & dogs and some people bring other misc food items so the BBQ is on. Participating in the BBQ is optional but if you do partake please bring a food item or slip a few bucks to the main food contributors. We should have 1-2 grills present for the BBQ.
As a general rule of thumb, we usually play if the temperatures are above 55 degrees and the grounds are dry. Should the forecast show possible rain showers, the organizers will show up regardless and we will wait out the showers for an hour or two if need be. In the summer months, the grounds dry up very fast from rain showers. Should the weather become unplayable, we will communicate a cancellation via the UTC Meetup Site.
Check in with Kevin Trinkaus all season long for Lost & Found Items.
Highly recommended items to bring are lawn chair, ball cap, suntan lotion, and bottled water.
Remember, this is 3 hit volleyball ( Bump, Set, Spike ) as oppose to Jungleball. We will train newcomers if they are not familiar with these skills..
Our goal is to satisfy all ability levels and get all interested players who show up involved in the action. If the turnout is light, of course it is okay to mix all types of ability levels on the same net. Like last year we would like to continue multiple nets for different ability levels. With 3 nets, we should be able to accommodate all ability levels assuming the turnout is large enough and varied as such:
Advanced Net - 3 Hit Volleyball ( Bump, Set, Spike ) at all times. This net would encompass those with proficient skills. Players in this category need to take the initiative to setup this net and make it happen. This net can consist of player teams ranging from 2 X 2, 3 X 3,and 4 X 4. Advanced players who have been playing for years are looking for this type of volleyball.
Intermediate Net - 3 Hit Volleyball ( Bump, Set, Spike ) recommended. This net would encompass those with average skills. Players in this category need to take the initiative to setup this net and make it happen.
Beginner Net - 3 Hit Volleyball ( Bump, Set, Spike ) recommended. This net would encompass those learning the skills. Players in this category need to take the initiative to setup this net and make it happen.
Courtesy Rules:
Call the score before each serve so that all players can hear.
After each play is over roll the ball back to the server on the ground gently.
If you interfere with the net by touching it with your body please say that you netted and the play will be dead and serve will go to the other team.
Kicking the ball over the net is allowed as long as it is a soft attempt out of desperation.
Net serves are only good when playing 4 X 4 or greater.
Come out to an awesome venue where the sights are plentiful and awesome V-Ball games await your participation !!! Most importantly, bring your Ferrets since they deserve open space and clean city air.
Let’s continue this great UTC Tradition !!! This has always been a lot of fun for Creekers over the years and we look forward to seeing you guys out on the green grassy knoll real soon for some "Good Ole Urban Fun" !!!
Thanks,
Doo Dah

We always welcome all ability levels & all age groups and never charge a fee. However, we do require the desire to play 3 Hit Volleyball Skills as explained below. The organizers of this event bring several nets to help satisfy all ability levels. However, if you bring your own net you are welcomed to dictate the level of play that you are interested in playing and you may choose your own players as you desire. We are a very friendly social group and want everybody to fit in to their ability level and have a pleasant experience. We will help new players as best we can to help them develop 3 Hit Volleyball Skills on a specific net if feasible. If you are new to this group, please introduce yourself to the organizers, and we will do our best to help you fit into this group.
