About us
VR New Mexico is a group for anyone interested in the magical, sometimes maddening, and always mind-expanding world of virtual reality, and its cousins: augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and extended reality (XR).
We welcome everyone: artists, gamers, techies, curious newcomers, and VR veterans.
If you’ve ever strapped on a headset and said, “Whoa,” you belong here.
Hi, I’m Chuck. I’m the new organizer of this group here in Albuquerque. Before this, I was part of the vibrant VR scene in Columbus, Ohio, and I help run a VR club on Albuquerque’s Westside.
When I saw VR New Mexico was at risk of disappearing, I couldn’t let it happen. This group has deep roots and great bones... 8 years strong! But now we’re ready for a little reboot.
Here’s what you can expect (and help shape):
- In-person hangouts with headsets and demos
- Socials at breweries (long-neck bottles + VR = pro move)
- Experimental meetups inside social VR platforms like VRChat, Spatial, Banter, etc.
- Crossover events about AI, 3D printing, GIS, and more (via Spatial Computing group)
- Crossover events about performing, designing, and writing (via 3D Immersive Arts NM group)
This group isn’t about showing off. It’s about showing up. And it’s about trying cool stuff with curious people who love VR, or are just figuring it out.
Got ideas? Bring them.
Got a headset? Charge it.
Got nothing but interest? Perfect.
Let’s explore the metaverse, one meetup at a time.

TEDxABQ: Look for VR New Mexico at ABQ Railyards!
Albuquerque Rail Yards, 777 1st Street SW, Albuquerque, NM, USJoin VR New Mexico at TEDxABQ 2026 (tickets) for a day of ideas, art, exhibits, conversations—and perhaps a little virtual reality.
This year’s theme, REFRAME, is a natural fit for VR New Mexico. VR, AR, and XR quite literally give us new ways to see and experience the world, while TEDxABQ promises talks ranging from artificial intelligence and gaming to science, creativity, and changing perspectives. The event also includes exhibits and “immersive experiences” alongside the talks.
We’ll treat this as a casual meetup within the larger TEDxABQ event. Come for all or part of the day, look for fellow VR New Mexico members, explore on your own, and reconnect between talks to compare notes. We’ll bring a couple of VR headsets, too.
This is also a natural crossover with our sibling Meetup groups, Spatial AI, exploring where artificial intelligence meets the physical and virtual worlds, and 3D Immersive Arts NM, bringing together artists, performers, writers, designers, and technologists interested in creating immersive experiences.
I've enabled Meetup's new Event Chat functionality. (Not sure how well it works, but perhaps we can use it to find each other in the crowd.)
Look for a tall, bespectacled bloke wearing a light green Key West ball cap with a fish skeleton on it wearing sunglasses and smoking a cigar. (The fish, not the bloke.)
