About us
This group will meet to discuss one of the weird movies on the 366 Weird Movies List and Apocrypha (https://366weirdmovies.com/the-weird-movie-list/). We can go beyond that list too -- nothing is set in stone.
Half of the time, you will watch the movie on your own and then come to the meeting to discuss it. In the other meetings, we will watch the movie together and then discuss it.

"Phantom of the Paradise" Screening and Discussion
Saint Paul Public Library - George Latimer Central Library, 90 West 4th Street, Saint Paul, MN, US"Phantom of the Paradise" (1974, 91 min.) is a colorful, campy, bombastic rock musical in the "Tommy" / "Rocky Horror Picture Show" vein. It was written and directed by Brian de Palma but is quite unlike the rest of his films.
I'll get to the library around 1:30 p.m. and try to set everything up in time for a 2 p.m. start. Get there early so you don't miss a minute. The library closes at 5, so we'll have to wrap up discussion before then. Discussions tend to last no more than about half an hour.
It's all free. We'll be in the Andy Boss Community Room on the 4th floor of the George Latimer Public Library in downtown St. Paul.
Street parking is possible, but you might consider using the light rail. A great place to park and ride is the Western Avenue stop of the Green Line. There's always parking on Aurora Avenue, one street south of University. If you're willing to pay $15, the parking lot for the Science Museum is close by and always has spots.

"The City of Lost Children" Discussion: Watch it at Home First
Pryes Brewing Company, 1401 West River Road North, Minneapolis, MN, USIn "The City of Lost Children" (1995, 112 min.), French filmmakers Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet create an especially dark but somewhat cartoony fairy-tale world that is too disturbing for most kids. It's a style that was revolutionary in the 1990s but might seem more familiar in this world of comic-book movies.
Watch "The City of Lost Children" on your own and come ready to chat about it. As of this writing, it doesn't look to be free anywhere but you can rent it: One Cut of the Dead streaming: where to watch online?. If it proves to be available nowhere, we will figure something out and keep you posted.
We'll meet at Pryes Brewing, which has lots of space and isn't very noisy. It's near downtown Minneapolis but has plenty of parking. I'll get there around 6:30 p.m. and try to claim a table on the opposite side of the bar. Get a drink and then head to the other end of the building, to one of the long tables near the risers. It's quietest there and there will hopefully be a long table free (though we might have to move around at least once to find enough space). You'll be able to identify me by my black baseball cap that says "Weird Movie Club" on it. I'll post in this event listing if we end up somewhere else in the building.

“It’s Such a Beautiful Day” and “Cat Soup” Screening and Discussion
Saint Paul Public Library - George Latimer Central Library, 90 West 4th Street, Saint Paul, MN, US“It’s Such a Beautiful Day" (2012, 62 min.) and "Cat Soup" (2001, 34 min.) are two heartbreaking achievements in animation. I'm not sure that there's a lot else connecting them, besides both being strange (of course), rather understated in tone, and willing to go to some dark places. One of them will make me cry for sure -- see if you can guess which.
