What we’re about
Welcome to Winchester Social Walks, a small friendly walking group with a relaxed approach to walking.
We aim to offer members a chance to meet, walk and talk with others in the beautiful Hampshire countryside and occasionally beyond, giving everyone the opportunity to soak in the views, enjoy nature, the wildlife, and take plenty of pictures.
If you are alone, don't worry! Many walkers turn up by themselves and it's a great way to meet new people and make new friends.
Longer walks on weekends- with some shorter after work walks in the summer - at a leisurely pace suitable for those who are comfortable and physically fit to complete walks from approx. 4 to 12 miles (6.5 -19 km).
Anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to join, including dogs and well-behaved dog owners, but please check before bringing your dog, in case some walks might not be suitable.
This is a non-smoking group. All members must provide a recognisable picture of your face, without long distance pictures. This is so that we can look out for you and welcome you at any events you attend, otherwise your request to joining may be declined.
Please note (as with most groups) there will be a modest charge of £2 per person per walk to cover the subscription costs of the site and other expenses associated with running the group. There may also be additional charges depending upon the activity.

Farley Mount and Parnholt Circular - Bluebells walk
Farley Mount Monument, Mount Rd, Winchester, GBWe will start this walk from the car park near Farley Mount where we will pass the mount (the pyramid shaped folly that gives the park its name).
Farley Mount Monument is named after the famous monument to a horse, named "Beware Chalk Pit", which carried its owner to a racing victory in 1734, a year after having fallen into a chalk pit whilst out fox-hunting.
Farley Mount is a large area of beautiful downland and woodland with fine views over central Hampshire and we will be also walking across Parnholt Wood where hopefully we will be on time to see plenty of bluebells.
At the end of the walk for those who wish can enjoy a well-deserved treat at the Beechcroft Farm Shop & Tea Barn.
This walk should take us between 2:30-3:00 hours, covering around 6 miles (10km).
Please bear in mind that these times are flexible depending on short breaks and pace.
**As usual there will be a small charge of £2.00 (cash) per head per person for this walk on the day.**
Meet at 09:45 in the car park, ready to leave at 10:00.
Terrain: The first part of the route is pretty flat, the second half has a few very slight inclines. There are no kissing gates or stiles on route. Some part of the track can get very muddy if it has rained in the previous days. Make sure you are wearing appropriate footwear and clothing for this walk.
Parking: Please look up car park. There are several car parks in the area. If you use your phone for direction then click on the map, it will show you where the car park is and will gives you direction. whats3words ///pushy.duration.landlords
