The essay is a famously unruly form, a tangle of the personal and impersonal. Practiced as memoir, reportage, diary, criticism, and sometimes all four at once, its method is unmethodical. No two are ever written in the same way. Over eight weeks, we’ll read writers including Joan Didion, Annie Dillard, Zadie Smith, Patricia Lockwood, John Jeremiah Sullivan, and Saïd Sayrafiezadeh, and practice writing our own essays alongside them. Rather than follow the form chronologically, we’ll move through some of the problems essayists have returned to again and again: describing the sublime, capturing another person, making art from tragedy, and creating change. We’ll read closely, discuss about works and what doesn’t, and pay attention to the choices — of voice, structure, detail, omission — that make an essay come alive. # **Murkhmandli — Gathering #2** An evening of **art, music, poetry, conversation, and beautiful nonsense.** The artists take over. The musicians tune up. The fools gather again. **Murkhmandli** — a word with Sanskrit roots meaning *a troop of fools* — is a gathering for artists, musicians, poets, creators, and curious people who believe that culture is better when shared. 🎨 **The Art Exhibition** Invited artists showcase their work and share a few words about the ideas, stories, or strange little obsessions behind their creations. A chance to discover new work, meet the people who made it, and see things through someone else's eyes. Want to exhibit your work? **Register by Monday the 19th.** 🎤 **The Open Mic** Musicians, singers, and poets take turns on the mic, with short performances of around **12 minutes**. Different voices, sounds, and words come together throughout the evening, with room for expression, experimentation, and the occasional beautiful disaster. Conversations, new encounters, a drink or two, unexpected connections, and whatever beautiful nonsense happens when creative people share a room. Esta vez nos escapamos a **Caldes de Malavella**, conocido por sus aguas termales… pero, como suele pasar en Itinerarios Curiosos, nos alejaremos de lo más evidente para descubrir su lado más natural y sorprendente. Durante el recorrido caminaremos **sin prisa** por los bosques que rodean el pueblo hasta llegar al pantano de Can Llop. Desde allí, nos adentraremos en un “**bosque terapéutico**”, **🌳** donde podremos disfrutar de los efectos beneficiosos a nivel físico y psicológico que ofrecen sus **árboles centenarios**. Será también el lugar ideal para hacer una pausa y disfrutar de nuestro **picnic en plena naturaleza**, bajo la sombra de los árboles. De regreso al pueblo, iremos a tomar un café y después nos perderemos por su **bonito casco antiguo**, entre edificios modernistas y calles arboladas. Un paseo perfecto para **desconectar, respirar y dejarse sorprender por la naturaleza**.
