**Our September novel is: *American Spy* by Lauren Wilkinson** **This month’s novel is a historical mystery by a Black author. It includes spies, politics, and suspense, with ties to Russia. The story focuses on African American characters and blends elements of espionage and literary fiction. The book is 320 pages in print and 10 hours and 50 minutes on audiobook.** It’s 1986, the heart of the Cold War, and Marie Mitchell is an intelligence officer with the FBI. She’s brilliant, but she’s also a young black woman working in an old boys’ club. Her career has stalled out, she’s overlooked for every high-profile squad, and her days are filled with monotonous paperwork. Welcome, readers! Our September read is ***Amity and Prosperity: One Family and the Fracturing of America*** by Eliza Griswold. A Pulitzer Prize-winning nonfiction book detailing the 318-page true story of Stacey Haney, a single mother and nurse in rural Washington County, Pennsylvania, whose family suffered severe illnesses after leasing their land for fracking. **Please note our location change:** We will meet at **The Pub Out Back** in their Room Out Back space. We are welcome to bring in our own food, but **drinks must be purchased at the bar.** Parking is available in the public lot off of W New England Ave or on-street in the Old Worthington area. **Is there a version of your next chapter you haven't let yourself imagine yet?** Most of us have thought plenty about the practical side of what's ahead — but far fewer of us have actually sat down and thought about the rest of it: who we are without the roles that used to define our days, what we're genuinely curious about, who we want in our corner for this next stretch. I'm hosting **The Unwritten Chapter**, a 60-minute interactive workshop just for members of this group. You'll take a short, private self-assessment (no one sees your score but you), have a couple of real conversations in small groups, and leave with some honest clarity. It's not a lecture. It's not about finances. It's the conversation most of us never get to have out loud. Space is limited so it stays a real conversation, not a big room of strangers.
