Meet new friends, explore useful student resources and enjoy giveaways, activities and lucky draws. 🎁🎲 ## 📣 About the Event Starting a new semester in a new city can feel exciting, but it can also be overwhelming. Where do you meet people outside your classes? How do you find reliable local services? And how can you settle into university life more quickly? The **2026 S2 Brisbane Freshers Festival** brings new students, current students, local businesses and community organisations together for an afternoon of connection, activities and discovery. 🤝 Now in its **sixth edition**, the festival is designed especially for students from **The University of Queensland (UQ), Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and Griffith University**. 🏫 Whether you have just arrived in Brisbane or have already been studying here for a while, you are welcome to attend. Come with friends, invite your classmates or join on your own—you will have plenty of opportunities to meet people during the event. 👋 Admission is completely free, but advance registration is recommended as capacity is limited. 🎟️ ## ✨ What You Can Expect ### 🎓 Meet Students from Brisbane’s Three Major Universities Connect with new and current students from UQ, QUT and Griffith. Codelo Time: Open Source - Engineering socials

From 5.00pm, we will just socialise and shit-talk. At or around 7.00pm we will have a guest talk for around 30 minutes. This session's talk is from my good friend, Filip Gudov. Filip is a data scientist with 10+ years in the industry. He started in marketing data science before moving to investment management and trading. He's going to talk about optimal budget allocation, what the 'science' means in 'data science' or maybe spooky action at a distance. Not sure. This room is pretty limiting, so get in quick!

With over 26 years of design experience spanning AI, product, and research, Ermi has driven innovation across fintech, data, retail, and transport, most recently pioneering the integration of AI into design workflows. At Nuix, she championed an AI-first approach — using AI as a genuine design partner to rapidly prototype and validate concepts — while co-leading strategic initiatives, mentoring designers, and partnering across engineering, sales, and marketing to deliver end-to-end product design, research, and branding for SaaS, fintech, and transport products.
