Winter Designs, salvaged treasures from across the United States create added warmth and intimacy to the 1890’s fireplace facing an arched ceiling covered in New York City subway tile, complementing the massive 1920’s wooden apothecary cabinet shipped from the East Coast that is now the custom retrofitted back bar. **HISTORY** The Melrose Umbrella Co. logo is a silhouette of, then, 90-year old James Melrose, which was published in an English newspaper after serving his elected position as Lord Mayor of York, England. In addition to the magnificent life he led, Mr. Melrose became forever known as the ’Grand Old Man’ to his constituency and even to the Queen of England. Found within the Umbrella Co. is a photograph of one of the many occasions the two were documented together while wielding his umbrella which he carried as opposed to a cane, until his expiration at the ripe old age of 101. **BUILDING** The building in which the Melrose Umbrella Co. is housed was built in the midst of the excitement of the demise of prohibition, after the 18th amendment was lifted via ratification of the 21st amendment. Making it the only instance in U.S. history that a constitutional amendment was retracted. The iconic image that marked this momentous celebration was an umbrella with raindrops falling from the inside representing the promise of, Many Wet Days To Come… **Key Unique Features** **• The Name and Symbolism:** The bar is named after a nod to co-owner Austin Melrose’s ancestor, James Melrose, a turn-of-the-century nobleman famously silhouetted holding an umbrella. Years prior the 94th Aero Squadron in Van Nuys closed too. There’s only a couple other aviation-themed restaurants in California; like the Proud Bird at LAX. **But no other retro, mid-century airline-themed cocktail lounge like the ULTRA-COOL vibe PS Air Bar was. Saturday Santa Monica/Sorrento Beach Volleyball

Come out and get some sun, beach, ocean and beach volleyball! We play about intermediate level, playing bump, set and spike. A few of us get there really early to play 2’s, 3’s and do some drills to warm up. We then switch to 4’s when more get there. Come and go as you please. We’ll have music going and good vibes. Lucas Museum visit!

Hi all! The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is opening this month and I am going to visit opening week. I would like to go back again on Sunday November 1st at 11:30am as a group. About this event: It is outdoors in a super-funky, pretty and cute location of The Hollywood Sculpture Garden. **This is intended as a "New To Meetup Mixer." It follows them as they struggle amid city-led encampment sweeps, gentrification, and the growing brutality of the State, and find hope and safety in community--“the people.” The film stars the talents of POOR Magazine’s arts & activism collective, whose motto is: “We aren’t acting, we are living.” “*A lot of times our stories are one-dimensional. We’re just seen as the victim, just holding on by a thread.
