I have a few spare tickets so you can message me with your email address or Whatsapp number if you want to use one of them. Meet on the seats in the Great Court opposite the information desk. The event is free to join. Please consider contributing contribute £2 toward the cost of the event and for my time. Alternatively, I can provide tuition at a cost of £10 for the session. All welcome! Please bring your own drawing materials. There are stools you can borrow. Please note MUSEUM POLICY - use a hand-held pad and only draw with pencils. We will draw in the galleries from 10.40 am. We will meet again in the Great Court Cafe nearest the Egyptian Galleries at 12:30 pm.

Shanty Singing at the William Morris Pub

From Cocktails & Conversation - Single Events With Heart

First Wednesday of every month, upstairs at the William Morris Pub. Free entry and house drinks are half price between 6pm and 7pm. We sing three sets of eight songs, plus a few requests. We hand out chorus sheet books to all guests, and get 90% audience participation by way of them joining in singing the choruses. The pub has its own kitchen downstairs and cooks good quality reasonably priced food, which looks good and smells good, just like us. The pub is situated in picturesque Merton Abbey Mills on the River Wandle, only ten minutes walk from Colliers Wood tube station. Guests will then be divided into small groups of 5–6 people and set off to explore the museum. **The Gallery Challenge** As you explore the V&A, your mission is to find and photograph an artwork or object that represents: ❤️ **Love** ✨ **Your Ideal Life** 🎭 **Your Personality** The challenge encourages meaningful conversations and offers a unique insight into how others see themselves, their aspirations, and what matters most to them. Every 20 minutes, groups will rotate, giving you the opportunity to meet and connect with different people throughout the experience. **Coffee, Conversations & Connections** After the gallery challenge, we'll return to the V&A Café. Each participant will select one favourite photo from the challenge and have up to one minute to explain why they chose it and how it relates to the chosen category. We'll also discover whether anyone selected the same artwork for the same challenge category, creating fun and unexpected connections. These short presentations often reveal far more than a traditional introduction ever could and provide excellent conversation starters for the rest of the event. **The Match Experience** After getting to know one another through the gallery challenge and discussions, guests can privately indicate through the C&C app who they would like to see again. Third Wednesday of the month, every month at this charming restaurant /bar/Tea House in Vauxhall. Entry is £10. The food is home cooked and the fish and ships smells and tastes delicious. We sing three sets of eight songs, and take a few requests. The audience all join in singing the choruses but here is quieter than some of our other venues. Social after: Spotlight on medieval London

This intro by the London Archives is only a short 30 mins session. I want to hear what they say about medieval London, and then continue this Meetup as a social event by going for drinks afterwards, likely in Exmouth Market. The London Archives say: "“Join us for a short session to learn more about the Spotlight on Medieval London display at the London Archives. The event includes a short introductory talk about the items in the Spotlight on Medieval London exhibition from a member of the London Archives team, followed by Q&A and time for independent browsing. This small display showcases some of the rich medieval material in our collections: two illuminated manuscripts, two watercolours of City of London aldermen dating from around 1450, alongside two further medieval documents." The exhibition is open until mid Dec 2026. But please note that their annual closure runs 14-31 August, so they are only open again in September. Tuesday's event is our chance in August to get a look at this small but intriguing display! The other material includes charter and statute transcripts, a property purchase, a 1392 apprenticeship record of a female, and a 1602 receipt related to Dick Whittington.

★ ★ ★ ★ *“ethereal, profoundly sad beauty”* (The Guardian) ★ ★ ★ ★ *“intricate and profoundly eccentric”* (The Telegraph) **Join us at the Royal Academy of Arts for the Richard Dadd, Beyond Bedlam exhibition.** The highly original works of Victorian artist Richard Dadd, best known for his fairy paintings, draw upon literature, legend and memory to portray elaborate worlds that radiate imaginative power. The first years of Richard Dadd's life promised the conventional success of a highly talented British artist. The young Dadd was a student of the Royal Academy Schools and founding member of a group of artist-friends known as the Clique. In the early 1840s Dadd was already establishing himself as a painter of Shakespearean fairy scenes when he embarked on an ambitious trip across the Eastern Mediterranean that would inspire him for the rest of his life. On his return to Britain, Dadd began experiencing delusions, which led to him killing his father. Dadd spent the rest of his life as a patient in Bethlem and Broadmoor hospitals, where he was encouraged to continue producing oil paintings and watercolours of extraordinary delicacy and vividness. Despite Dadd's seclusion in the Victorian asylum system, he was able to draw upon his memory, imagination and abiding interest in literature and legends to render fantastical worlds replete with exquisite detail. These paintings and watercolours are among the most original and imaginative works in British art. Dadd's art was all but forgotten until it resurfaced in the 1960s and 70s. In the years since, his work has continued to inspire artists, writers and musicians, including the band Queen, who named a song after one of Dadd's most celebrated paintings, *The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke*. Bringing together more than 100 works, this exhibition tells the story of Dadd's life and art, as radical and imaginative in his time as it is today. Day trip by train - Hiking in the New Forest, Hampshire!

Come along on Saturday 8th August for a day trip hiking in the New Forest! **About the day** The New Forest is an area of Hampshire, southern England which includes one of the largest remaining tracts of unenclosed pasture land, heathland and forest in southern England. It covers about 219 square miles. The New Forest was created as a royal forest by William I in about 1079 for the royal hunt, mainly of deer. Today, 90% of the forest is still owned by the crown. The forest is fantastic for spotting wildlife and also farm animals as the local people of the area have pre-existing rights of common: *'to turn horses and cattle out into the Forest to graze'*. They do this during the summer months, so we will hopefully see horses, ponies, donkeys, cattle and maybe some sheep whilst walking. The village where we will be starting and finishing the walk; Brockenhurst is right in the heart of the New Forest and as animals have right of way in the forest, its not uncommon to see ponies and cattle walking around the village. **The Walk** We will walk about 6-7 miles. NEW VENUE! NEW REGULAR DAY! We're now back to where Southbank Vinyl began in 2017 - The Roebuck Pub in Borough (50 Great Dover St, London SE1 4YG). We're now meeting the first Wednesday of each month at the Roebuck, where great food and drink options are available and we have our own room upstairs to play our records on the deck. Come along with a bunch of vinyl you'd like to play and share with us! This month we're heading north to Manchester, but before you dig out the usual suspects – Manchester is home to post-punk, acid house, indie, electronica, rave, soul and pop as much as it is bucket hats and parkas. So expect a mix of the melancholic and the euphoric; jangling guitars and rave-drenched synths. Join us for a melon-twisting evening as we celebrate one of Britain's most influential musical cities.
