Thu, Jun 11, 12:00 PM
From Experience Paris: 50 walks by Interkultur
4.7

For years, wood artisans have thrived around the Faubourg Saint Antoine, outside of Bastille square. This tradition, along with furniture stores was still overwhelming until the end of the last century. Slowly, the workshops and manufactories give way to private lofts, bars and startups. Behind the opera, clubs and restaurants swarm, vibrant outposts of one of Paris's favorite night district. Despite the rents rise year after year, and most of the wood related shops have closed down or moved away, the neighborhood is full of beautiful and little known back alleyways and leafy private yards, where the sound of wood work can still be heard. In one of them, a meeting is planned with one of the last wood craftsmen in his amazing workshop. https://secure.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/8/6/6/1/600_452674401.jpeg

L'Hôtel de Beauvais, cour administrative d'appel de Paris

L'Hôtel de Beauvais, cour administrative d'appel de Paris

Thu, Jun 11, 12:00 PM
From Experience Paris: 50 walks by Interkultur
4.7

**Visit one of the Marais's most historical mansions** Hotel de Beauvais holds its name from **Catherine de Beauvais**, lady in waiting to the Queen in the 1640's. Nicknamed "One-eye Cathy", she happened to give young **Louis XIV**, his first lessons in bed. The mansion is a sign of the king's gratitude. As a Bavarian Embassy, the building also saw young **Mozart** stay there when he came to Paris at the end of the 18th century, before one of Paris' most notorious gambling place settled there. After the French Revolution, like many Marais mansions, the **Hotel de Beauvais** was stripped from its outstanding decors and parted into numerous flats and small factories. The yard of honor has now been restored and shows a **sumptuous decor** as well as an original and rare layout, due to the lack of space. The visit will also highlight the 13th century **Gothic vaulted cellars** and a **superb elliptic staircase** at the back of the courtyard. The building, has retained **the beautiful staircase of honor** from the 17th century, used by so many famous guests. It now takes people and visitors to the modern rooms of the **City of Paris administrative court of appeal**. Walk in English 25€/person. Includes entry ticket and right of speech.

Rayons Gamma et Données Ouvertes : Explorer les Galaxies 🌌 Conférence à l’IAP

Rayons Gamma et Données Ouvertes : Explorer les Galaxies 🌌 Conférence à l’IAP

Tue, Jun 2, 5:30 PM
From Paris Science and Mathematics Circle
5.0

🌌 **P. P.S.** : Nous publions également ici des événements à la croisée des sciences et des lettres : [Paris Cultural Outings Circle](https://www.meetup.com/paris-cultural-outings-circle/) 🌼🍀 %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 🇬🇧 **Dear Group Elements,** (Yes — like elements of a mathematical group 🧮🙂) Let's attend this fascinating (and informative!) talk on **“Gamma Rays and Open Data: Exploring Active Galaxies Without Borders”** by Catherine Boisson (Obs. de Paris) 🌌🌌 **Description:** 🌀 Active galactic nuclei are sources of intense radiation and highly efficient particle accelerators. Observing them at very high energies allows us to explore fundamental physical processes, such as particle acceleration mechanisms and the radiative processes at work in jets. In this context, ground-based telescope arrays — capable of detecting the Cherenkov light produced by the interaction of gamma rays in our atmosphere — play a key role. 🔭 However, modelling these sources requires a multi-wavelength approach, combining data from radio to gamma rays to reconstruct their spectral energy distribution and variability. 💾 Behind every scientific result lies an enormous amount of coordination, modelling and data management work. The complexity of gamma-ray data — indirect reconstruction, strong instrumental dependence — poses significant challenges in terms of managing and disseminating public data archives. **PS:** You can read more about the [HESS telescope](https://hess.in2p3.fr/the-h-e-s-s-telescopes/) and the [science](https://hess.in2p3.fr/science/) it explores through the links 📝 Registrations open from **06.05.2026 (the first Wednesday of the month)** [https://www.iap.fr/science/conferences/conferences_mensuelles/](https://www.iap.fr/science/conferences/conferences_mensuelles/) [https://www.iap.fr/science/conferences/conferences_mensuelles/form_reservation_conference.php](https://www.iap.fr/science/conferences/conferences_mensuelles/form_reservation_conference.php) [https://www.iap.fr/science/conferences/conferences_mensuelles/resumes2026.html](https://www.iap.fr/science/conferences/conferences_mensuelles/resumes2026.html) **Even if the registration appears full when you follow the link, it’s usually still possible to get seats if you arrive early (around 7:10 pm)** 🍀 . The talk is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. You can still check here in case spots open up ▶️ And the session will also be available **live and replay** on IAP's YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@InstitutdAstrophysiquedeParis 📍 **Acces**: https://www.iap.fr/accueil/acces/acces-fr.html 🍺It usually lasts 60–90 minutes. Afterwards for those who'd like to continue the evening, we could grab a drink or grab a bite in the neighbourhood. See you very soon! 🌌 **PPS:** We post some events in the intersection of Science and Humanities here as well [Paris Cultural Outings Circle](https://www.meetup.com/paris-cultural-outings-circle/) 🌼🍀u
