Central / Surry Hills Classic Film Photography

The challenge for today is to capture street images around Central Station, Belmore Park and Surry Hills. Look for the unusual and let your images tell a story. If you feel comfortable enough you could ask a subject for their portrait. The meet up point is the cafe outside the country platforms at 10 am. It is next to the Eternity Cafe. I would recommend monochrome film at 400 ASA or ISO. Hp 5 by Ilford works well as well as Kodak Tri X. It gives a grain effect similar to mid 20th Century film emulsions. I would consider developing the negatives and getting the images scanned to your computer which you can then upload to the meetup page or Instagram. If you have an image, you particularly like you can pick up the negatives from your camera store later. I would recommend Digi Direct at Bondi Junction or Super 8 at Newtown. It is more challenging using film but that is part of the fun. If you don't own a film camera there are two stores in Newtown that sell refurbished 35 mm film cameras or alternatively you can buy a disposable film camera on line or try the two retail stores I suggested earlier. Why not give it a try as there will be more film events in the future.

August Meetup for the Sydney Nature Journal Club

Come along to our **August meetup for the Sydney Nature Journal Club**. Wattle Day is 1 August, we will explore this theme. This is a chance to connect, spend some time in nature and journal together. I will offer some guidance to start. After we can share journal pages and ideas. **What to bring:** Bring along sketchbooks/paper and your favourite drawing materials (pens, pencils, watercolour, acrylic, anything you have). I will have extra materials on the day if you want to explore other mediums. \*\*Where:\*\* TBC **Cost:** Suggested donation is $10 annual fee, $5 casual fee. (This helps cover Meetup fees). We may go cafe or early dinner afterwards if some of us would like to go. Fee:$2. We use it for running this event. I'll give my PayID on the day. If you prefer cash, of course, it works. What will be expecting for event : \- Provide an opportunity to gather who like drawing and chat with each other\. \-\- Make sure to bring your own drawing stuff and drawing sample you'd like to draw\. \-\-\- Unfortunately\, Organiser don't draw at all\, so can't tell any of tip for art skills\. We are a branch of **Tenshinshō-den Katori Shintō-ryū**, training under the **Shinbukan Dōjō in Narita, Japan**, one of Japan’s oldest classical martial traditions (*koryū bujutsu*), preserving techniques passed down for over five centuries. Our group welcomes individuals with a sincere interest in traditional martial arts and a commitment to long-term, disciplined study. Training is non-commercial — fees are minimal, the **first week is free**, and **parking is available**. Sessions are held **every Tuesday, except NSW public holidays**. To start, all you need is **comfortable clothing**, better if it is a keikogi and hakama. Equipment is provided for beginners, and guidance will be given later if you continue training seriously. Practice begins with **kenjutsu** using the *bokutō* (wooden sword) and progresses to **iaijutsu** (using a *iaitō*). Later we also study **bō** (staff) and **naginata** (glaive). After several years, practitioners may train in **nitō-ryū** (dual swords), **kodachi** (short sword), **yari** (spear), and other parts of the curriculum. Please note: the **Meetup member count does not reflect actual attendance** — our core group is small, dedicated, and focused on authentic training.
