šWatch Solar Eclipse & Perseid Meteors | Wine | Stargazing With Telescopes š
Wed, Aug 12, 5:00 PMšEver look up and marvel with insatiable curiosity at the beauty and wonder of the **universe?** That wild sobering thought that somewhere in the chaos of creation - the emergence of life - the universe became **conscious** enough to look back in time and not just ask the existential questions, but try to answer them. And now, in our own small moment of cosmic history, join to see rare Solar sun block last seen in UK skies in 1999 and one that will no return again until the year 2090. š **But thereās more celestial wonder**: Tonight will also be the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. So after the eclipse ends and skies darken around 9.30pm - we'll watch the largest natural fireworks display on and then from around 11pm using telescopes take a look at majestic Saturn and those amazing rings, iconic beautiful **star fields**, the remnants of supernovae witnessed by our earliest ancestors, **Jupiter,** along with planet's potential lifeāharbouring **moons. multiāstar systems** reminiscent of the twin suns of *Star Wars* and even **Tau Ceti**, a star hosting two Earthālike worlds in its habitable zone. Plus Meteors All of this under a hot summer's evening - with drinks, engaging conversation, and goodānatured but fun banter. In between observing - we'll have **drinks and engaging chats** on all astronomy related topics for those inclined: Space exploration \| Fermi Paradox \| Astrobiology \| Cosmology \| paleontology\, \| SETI & Drake Equation for alien civilisations estimates \| exoplanetology etc as well as non space chats and banter too\. No doubt we'll hear the usual jokes we've all heard before\! If those don't make you laugh\, my impersonation of Los Angeles ET will\! š½ And to help set the mood and make the night feel even extra galactic, Iāll put my DJ hat to play some spaceāthemed tunes and songs about the stars! You don't need a telescope as you will be able to view through scopes belonging to me and other club members (as long as you behave responsibly and don't temper with expensive equipment). If you have your own telescope/binoculars feel free to bring along and I can help you setting it up if you're a newbie **==== ITINERARY =====** We will meet outside Archway station in Archway, Islington - only 12 mins on tube from both central london and the city. WRITE CLUB: one hour of silent writing (or reading) in the company of others

This very simple meetup is based on the premise that public and peer accountability enables more productive writing than sitting at home and getting distracted by the fridge. We will write/read for an hour in silence. Book Swap Social Event - Make New Friends Who Love Books

We will enjoy nice drinks and snacks together at a beautiful lounge bar in London. You can bring your books and exchange them with whoever has the books you want to read. Since this is a Science and Philosophy book club, it would be great for you to bring non-fiction books that are insightful and thought-provoking. If you want to bring fiction books that are scientifically or philosophically insightful, feel free to bring those as well. Since it is a social event, I encourage everyone to make deep meaningful conversations and make new friends. You can come alone or bring your friends with you. If you come alone, there is no need to be shy or scared. I will welcome you and introduce you to cool interesting people to speak with. Also feel free to come even if you forget to bring any books.
Make New Friends At A Bookshop
Sat, Aug 29, 5:00 PMDo you want to meet new people in a relaxing chill atmosphere surrounded by new books? Do you dislike loud and smelly places like pubs and clubs? This is the event for you. Science and Philosophy Book Club is creating a new kind of meetup where people who love books and knowledge can meet new friends in a big book shop. We will explore around different sections of the book shop together as a group while making interesting conversations with each other. We will go to both fiction and non-fiction areas. If you feel shy and feel nervous to come alone, I will make sure you will feel comfortable and accomodate to your needs. I will help introduce you to others so you can go over the barrier of anxiety when approaching a new person. We will meet on the ground floor lounge area of Doubletree Hilton Hotel at 6 p.m. It is an amazing cosy bar with classy vibes. We will wait for everyone to show up while getting some drinks and socializing. At 7 p.m we will head to the Waterstones book store near Russel Square and UCL. After we explore the book store, we will come back to the hotel bar and stay there for the rest of the night. This event requires Ā£5 donation to cover the venue fees. You can pay via cash or card.
