Ego Free Jam - First Saturdays
Sat, Jul 4, 11:30 PMThe Ego Free Jam is a monthly night of improvisational music for musicians and sound makers of all skill levels. **WHAT HAPPENS?** Together we go on two improvisational music and sound making journeys - electronic and acoustic - each lasting about 2 hours, with emphasis placed on listening to and supporting each other. There will be space for dancing and body movement, feel free to make art, or just listen. There are no spectators, only creators. Allow for the magic to happen! The opening ritual is an invitation to overcome our resistance to self-expression. Take a little risk and delight in knowing that it didn't kill you ;) * 7:30 PM: Doors open, time to settle, mingle, try out instruments * 8:00 PM: Jam #1 begins * 10:00 PM: Jam #2 begins This is a shoes-off event. Bring your cushy socks & let loose. NOTE: We now alternate between electro-acoustic and acoustic-only jams. Even months are acoustic. March is electro-acoustic. **RESERVE A TICKET** *Pay as you're able (suggested $20).* Reserve [here](https://www.delightfactorynyc.com/events/ego-free-jam-nov-gjl8h-283ff). **GETTING THERE** **Subway** C to Rockaway Ave (exit closer to Manhattan), J to Chauncey **Citibike** docks nearby **WHAT'S THE INTENTION & VIBE?** The idea is to let go and allow ourselves to play. There are no audiences at an Ego Free Jam. We're all participants, even when we're just quietly enjoying the groove. Jams include musicians and sound makers of all experience levels. They are safe spaces where we explore our creativity and where we strive to support others in their explorations. Dancing, stretching, and art making are welcome. The Delight Factory has three areas, the main area is for music making, the bar and back yard areas are for conversations. **WHY ‘EGO FREE’?** The ego is the part of us that wants to keep us safe in the world and tries to make us NOT do something. It shows up as fear and embarrassment. When we get the urge to "do it right” out of the way, we can play, improvise, take a little risk, mess up, see that it didn't kill us, and feel the delight in that piece of freedom. **DO I NEED TO BE A MUSICIAN?** Not at all. You can pick up an instrument and improvise, vocalize, move your body, make something, or just listen. **WHAT TO BRING?** You are encouraged to bring an instrument, dancing body, art supplies, yoga mat, favorite toy, whatever inspires you and is fun for you. Or come as you are. We have percussion instruments, a piano, mics, & more. **CAN I COME FOR PART OF IT?** Sure! Try and come before a jam starts but you're welcome any time. Stay for however long or briefly you want! **THE SIX JAM GUIDELINES** \- Explore & Play\! \- No judgment \- of yourself or others\. \- Claim space: Do a solo\, stand out\, be loud\, and remember to stay connected\, listen to the others\, and step back when it’s time for someone else to claim space\. \- When in doubt\, listen to others\. \- No spectators\. \- Have fun\! **THE INTENTION IS FOR IT TO BE** \* Experimental / Exploratory \* Improvisational \* Spiritual \* Therapeutic \* Inclusive \* Playful \* Supportive \* Open **WHAT IT ISN'T** \* A Performance \* A Singalong \* An Open Mic \* A Party \* Getting/Doing it Right **COVID-19 safety** COVID is still here. Please be aware of the risks you take by attending our events. We aim to keep cross air going, have sanitizers for instruments and mics. If you're having symptoms, please stay home. We encourage masks. Thank you! **Media Consent: Photo & Video** \- By participating in Delight Factory events you consent to be photographed\, filmed\, and/or otherwise recorded and to the publication of recorded media of your appearance\. \- If you don't want to be captured\, please let us know and we'll do what we can to fulfill your wishes\. \- If in doubt: ask\! Sign up for our **[newsletter](https://www.delightfactorynyc.com/signup)** to be in the know about what’s coming up at Delight Factory. We look forward to seeing you. Jason & Elke - [Delight Factory](https://www.delightfactorynyc.com/) founders \*\*\*\* "One of the great pleasures of making music with others is when all musicians are in sync, aware of each other, listening to the separate streams of each instrument merging into a river of greater sound and meaning ... A new field of consciousness is generated. It is a palpable experience" \-\- Jonathan Rose

Sunday Boggle & Scrabble
Sun, Jun 21, 6:00 PMOkay gang. Let's play our favorite word games. Whole Foods Hudson Yards is at 450 West 33rd Street in midtown Manhattan. Let's give this location a try. Take a train to 34 Street and walk west or the 7 train to Hudson Yards. The crosstown bus 34 (not 34A) heading west stops at Dyer Avenue. The entrance is near 31 Street and 10th Avenue. You may want to check mta.info for disruptions in service. We'll be upstairs on the 2nd floor. There is an escalator and elevator for those who wish to use it. Look left when you get to the second floor. For this meetup we will play Boggle and Scrabble. I will have Scrabble sets. You may bring a set of your own if you wish, along with a pen or pencil. I will have dictionaries, cheat sheets and sweet treats for bingos. A couple of ground rules. Make a purchase. A good variety of just about everything. Menu at www.wholefoodsmarket.com If you RSVP and cannot attend, change your RSVP to NO This will be a good meetup. I sense that. So RSVP and let's do this.

Napa Valley-Portland & Stunning California/Oregon Coastline
Mon, Jun 29, 8:00 PMClick below to reserve your spot (no payment necessary a this time) [Click here to reserve a spot](https://www.theactiveculture.com/rsvp) Let's spend a week together doing something truly unforgettable, driving one of the most breathtaking stretches of coastline on the planet, from the vineyards of Napa Valley all the way north through ancient forests, dramatic bluffs, amazing beaches and hidden coastal towns that feel like the rest of the world hasn't found yet. We begin in Napa Valley, where we will spend a full day visiting world-class wineries and having long dinners in one of America's greatest food destinations. From there we pick up Highway 1 and head north along the California coast, and from this point the road itself becomes the experience. Our first coastal stop takes us through Muir Woods, where a cathedral of thousand-year-old redwoods lines the path and the city feels like another lifetime ago. We continue to the wild, windswept shores of Point Reyes, dramatic cliffs, a historic lighthouse, and the kind of raw ocean scenery that stops you mid-sentence. Moving up the Sonoma Coast, we wind through Bodega Bay and Jenner, where rugged sea stacks rise from the surf and the Russian River quietly meets the Pacific. Then comes Mendocino, the crown jewel of the entire route. A Victorian village perched on clifftops above the crashing ocean, filled with art galleries, incredible restaurants, and scenery that feels almost too beautiful to be real. We'll spend a night here, and it will be one of the highlights of the trip. The further north we go, the wilder and more ancient the landscape becomes. The Avenue of the Giants takes us on a 32-mile drive through old-growth redwood forest so dense and towering it blocks out the sky entirely, walking the forest floor here is one of those rare experiences that genuinely shifts your perspective. From there, Redwood National Park delivers the final act: the tallest trees on Earth, herds of elk grazing in open meadows, and Fern Canyon, a hidden gorge with vertical walls of ferns rising fifty feet on either side that feels like walking onto another planet. That are just some of the highlights. There will be a few more absolutely stunning stops along the way. We close the trip in Portland, Oregon a vibrant, endlessly interesting city with great food, legendary bookstores, and a wonderful energy for a farewell dinner before you fly home. You will book your flight into San Francisco and fly home from Portland, everything else will be taking care of. We will travel together in a comfortable passenger van and stay each night in a new location, never too far from the coast and our next destination. This is leisurely adventure trip full of beauty, nature and stunning views. Because many of our stops are in smaller but popular coastal towns with limited lodging, it would be convenient for us all to share a room with one other person we are comfortable with. This is both to ensure we can accommodate the whole group and to keep costs reasonable. The cost covers lodging, transportation, state park fees and everything except food and flights. All you need to do is get yourself to San Francisco. The cost of the trip is $1785 per person (shared room). If you'd prefer your own room, just reach out and we'll do our best to make it work.
