Ego Free Jam - First Saturdays

The Ego Free Jam is a monthly night of improvisational music for musicians and sound makers of all skill levels. **WHAT HAPPENS?** Together we go on two improvisational music and sound making journeys - electronic and acoustic - each lasting about 2 hours, with emphasis placed on listening to and supporting each other. Dancing and body movement are encouraged, feel free to make art, or just listen. There are no spectators, only creators. Allow for the magic to happen! WTF (Weekly Tuesday Folders)

**NEW LOCATION:** OMG NYC (Origami Meetup Group! New York City) is a group for people to come together and share in the beautiful art of Origami - an ancient art of folding various mediums, most commonly paper. The word comes from the combination of the Japanese verb oru (to fold) and the noun kami (paper). Other materials often folded are fabric, wire mesh, sheet metal, tissue, thin plastic, cardboard, and straws. We meet as a group to teach each other new models and share paper, books, and tips. This meeting is free and open to all level of folders from beginners to advanced. There will be free paper available to share. You can bring your own paper and books, so you can just show up and fold! If you have models you would like to learn, or teach, let us know and we will try our best to accommodate. OMG NYC's WTF (Weekly Tuesday Folders) meetup is now located at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library at 455 5th Avenue. The meeting is on the 3rd floor in room 303. Free Outdoor Origami Classes with 34th Street Partnership

The 34th Street Partnership's free weekly outdoor origami classes are returning to Greeley Square for the summer! All ages and skill levels are welcome, and all materials are provided. No registration is required. Classes in May and June will be taught by Deb Pun, and will take place from 1-2pm on Mondays through June 29. July and August classes will be taught by Kika Salgo and will take place from 3-4pm on Tuesdays through August 25. The classes are held in Greeley Square Park, by the statue of Horace Greeley near the southern end of the park. Data exploration of Pixar films: Which one is the best?

This month we have the long awaited Pixar talk from Eric Leung. Thank you to **[NYU](https://steinhardt.nyu.edu/priism?utm_source=nyhackr)** for hosting us. Everybody attending must **[RSVP](https://nyhackr.org/?utm_source=nyhackr)** through the registration form at **[nyhackr](https://nyhackr.org/?utm_source=nyhackr)**. There is a charge for in-person and virtual tickets are free. Space is extremely limited and in-person registration closes at 3 PM the day of the talk. **About the Talk:** Pixar makes beloved films, like Toy Story, Cars, and Inside Out. But which one is the best? Which franchise is the best? In this light-hearted but informative talk, Eric will go over an R data package he's created called {pixarfilms}. Eric will share some of his insights in answering some basic and not-so-basic questions he's had about Pixar films. For example, how have they done in the box office, and how they rank across critics on the internet and media. This latter ranking is done by consensus, where I'll aggregate rankings across different sources to come up with a data-backed, consensus ranking of Pixar films. The talk will also briefly highlight data challenges in curating the data and also highlight other data that can be found in the R package. **About Eric:** Eric is a senior data scientist and "small-batch data architect", where they have spent years measuring marketing effectiveness for iconic media brands including ESPN and ABC. Currently deepening their expertise in statistical programming, Eric is actively applying Bayesian methods and causal inference to both large-scale business problems and artisanal curation projects, such as structuring data for the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens and building a comprehensive Pixar film database. They are an active member in the New York data community and draws on a former work life as a computational biologist to contribute to open-source data and web development communities.
