Mapping for Equity in NYC Council District 11 with BetaNYC

[REGISTER ON TITO](https://ti.to/betanyc/mapping-for-equity-district11-july2026) BetaNYC will present the Mapping for Equity project and how to create more equitable and accessible mapped spaces. We will show you how we’re mapping parks and public spaces into OpenStreetMap. Through this activity, we are making sure there's equal representation in data while quantifying and mapping our public realm. Together, we will site, count, and map community assets such as street lamps, benches, water fountains, trash cans, and picnic tables. This event will be delivered in English and all ages are welcome to attend (provided that anyone under 18 years old is present with a parent or guardian). We will be moving about the city and on uneven terrain. Plan on wearing appropriate footwear and environmental attire. Some games you might see are 7 Wonders, Settlers of Catan, Pandemic, Dominion, Dixit, Puerto Rico, Eldritch Horror, Ticket to Ride, Carcasonne among many others. Join me for casual drinks and conversations, and a couple rounds of trivia. This is an event where people from around the neighborhood just meet and talk. Talk about your day, talk about your life, talk about the weather, talk about your hobbies. Anything and everything is welcome! Then, at 8pm, we can join the rest of the bar in a round of Trivia where we can test our repitoire of all-important knowledge. Hopefully we can make meaningful connections and turn strangers into friends.

The worldviews we build with: Why good design starts in the spirit

"Efficiency is paramount." "Scale is the goal." "User engagement is the gateway.” Most of us don’t pause to reflect on what foundations we're building within ourselves. Stuff that feels too nebulous and exists out there, instead of in us, in here. This isn't a talk about "bad actors." It's about the rest of us. The well-intentioned designers, PMs, and engineers whose unexamined defaults quietly shape what gets built, who it serves, and who it harms. Drawing on indigenous learnings from Aotearoa New Zealand, and examples from accessibility and AI design, we'll explore what happens when we treat worldview work as foundational rather than optional. Elina Ashimbayeva is determined to find hope amid humanity's existential crisis! Join Elina! This session will focus on examples and allow people to interact with each other to reflect on our individual and team practices and worldviews. Because you can't change a practice without first changing the soil it grows in. Attendees will leave with ... * A clearer view of the worldviews running underneath your own work * Language to name them with your team * Examples of how different worldviews produce radically different products - especially in AI and accessibility * A small set of tools and prompts for doing worldview work as part of practice, not separate from it. **Presenter bio** [Elina Ashimbayeva](https://www.linkedin.com/in/elina-ashimbayeva/) is a product manager, community builder, and facilitator with over a decade of work across healthcare, education, and social impact. Originally from Kazakhstan and Aotearoa New Zealand, she is now based in New York. Elina has led product and discovery work at Health New Zealand, designed the Equitable Product Cohort on ethics and equity in tech, and run a storytelling community, Storyo. Her practice sits at the intersection of human-centred design, values-led leadership, and the harder, slower work of shifting the worldviews underneath how teams actually operate. She recently launched Making Good Money, a podcast on financial transparency with founders of mission-driven ventures, where she talks about the values that we make decisions from, in life and in work. Weekly Prospect Park Wednesday Morning Ride

Every Wednesday! Anyone looking for inspiration and community for your morning ride? Let's ride the Prospect Park Loop with a pack of Bromptons. We'll ride two times around Prospect Park. Afterwards, we'll have lattes, croissants and conversation at a bakery cafe 4 blocks from the park (or zoom off to work if your time is limited). This is intended as a short and sweet ride before your morning commute and people typically depart the cafe around 9-9:30am.
