Two centuries after the first European ship sailed to the Malabar Coast and made landfall at Calicut, the East India Company seeks to secure its future along the lucrative Silk Route, in the year 1766. An old evil now sails aboard a company ship, hoping to make a home in this new found land. But he will soon find that the ground along the Indus is an ancient one with daemons and legends far older than himself. Along These Savage Shores, where the days are scorched and the nights are full of teeth. This is going to be a change of pace for us, this will be the first graphic novel we have read and shared together for the book club. If you utilize Hoopla it should give you unlimited copies through the Los Angeles County Library or whatever library system you are part of just use your library card. Of course you can find it on Kindle or call you local comic book store and they should have a copy of it for purchase. If you have any troubles getting a hold of it please let me know.

**## Details** **TGIF Full Moon Friday Night Hike to Mt Hollywood** **Hunters Moon** **Intermediate level - elevation gain 1200 feet.** **Pot luck dinner party at the top! Bring your favorite dish or specialty. Please bring your own plate, cup, and utensils.** **5 miles round trip - not a beginner hike however beginners have been known to make it, nonetheless. No child left behind....** **NOTICE\*****\***************************************\*****We will meet at 6:30 at the STEPS of Parking Lot #2 (the Merry Go Round parking lot) - North end of the lot.******************************** **Hike on various trails and roads to get to the top where we have picnic tables at Mt. Hollywood.** **We will share the food we bring at the top.** **This will be a 3 plus hour event. We should be back to the parking lot by 10:00 PM. **>>>>LATEST UPDATE: 2 NIGHT OPTION, FRIDAY ADDED<<<<** **>>>>FRIDAY AND SATURDAY<<<<** **We will be camping at INDIAN COVE CAMPGROUND, GROUP SITE, on Halloween, Saturday, October 31, 2026.** **Although they allow up to 20 people we’re capping the group at 15 people and we are allowed up to 8 vehicles, max, at the group campsite.** **Please join the waitlist.** **There is a campsite fee of $5.50 PER PERSON, payable in advance.** **PLEASE PAY BY OCTOBER 1 to ensure group campsite fee is 100% covered.** **>>>>Fee is refundable only if the trip gets canceled.** **You’re completely free to go explore on your own, or just chillax at camp.** **>>>NATIONAL PARKS PASS IS REQUIRED FOR EACH VEHICLE ENTERING THE PARK.** **Purchase online or pay at the gate.** **October 31 is the last day of Daylight Savings. OG Toluca Lake 5 mile-ish urban Halloween adventure walk!!!

Back for our 5th year !!! The Urban-ish Adventurists which includes legendary walkers Lori and Joe (legends in their own minds) collectively known as "JOLO” invite you to explore a Halloween adventure in Toluca Lake. We will be doing a 5 mile-ish walk around Toluca Lake and surrounding areas . Great selection of houses by this time . Come out early to beat the crowds . Make sure you join us for a Toluca lake or Burbank seasonal walk as they are historically best Halloween houses in the City. We do our best to keep the walk in a 2 hour range, however could go longer by a mile or so and sometimes goes over time posted. Comfortable shoes, water, flashlight and a good attitude are suggested items to bring but not required. Remember it is suggested you get a minimum 10,000 steps a day. We can all achieve that healthy goal together. We help motivate each other. Come out to walk and socialize with nice friendly people and experience a good workout at the same time. Hope to see you at our next urban-ish walking adventure. We appreciate our regular walkers and always encourage new walkers to give our walk a shot. **MEETING LOCATION:** Tables/benches near the parking lot exit in front of the baseball/softball field **TOTAL DISTANCE**: We try to keep it to 5 miles but sometimes, we go over by a bit (mostly flat) **GUESTS**: Attendees are welcome to bring a guest (dogs are welcome as long as they are on a leash) **LIABILITY WAIVER**: The organizer(s) is an uncompensated and untrained volunteer. And while 15,000 or 20,000 steps would be great, they also require more time. So to make it fun and manageable, we’re starting with 10k steps as a challenge—and we may increase the goal in future events. **THE IMPORTANT POINTS ARE THESE;** Space is limited, so **please RSVP only if you’re 100% sure you’ll attend.** 🙏🏾If you RSVP and don’t show, you will be 🚩Red Flagged 🚩for future events—we all appreciate reliability and respect for others' abilities to get a spot to walk!🙏🏾 Expect to hit somewhere between **10,000–12,000 steps (approximately 7.5-9 miles),** depending on the pace and group. **INFORMATIONAL POSTING ONLY-See Website at** **[www.wildernesstravelcourse.org](http://www.wildernesstravelcourse.org/)** Dear Group Members, particularly the recent swell of new, never-been-backpacking-before-but-want-to-start members: There is a great Sierra Club opportunity that is about to begin….an opportunity that only happens one time each year and it is one of the best outdoor learning experiences the Sierra Club has to offer. This is the Angeles Chapter Wilderness Travel Course (WTC). Some of you have taken the course and are now leaders and/or knowledgeable hikers. For those of you who have not, enrollment in WTC is something you should consider now. The Wilderness Travel Course helps build outdoor skills so hikers can be safe in the backcountry. The course runs for ten weeks and includes four field trips (two one day and two weekend outings). Students learn map and compass navigation skills for competent hiking off-trail, snow travel, rock scrambling techniques, first aid, nutrition and lots more. The course is followed by unforgettable experience backpacking trips, most of which take place in the High Sierra, Sequoia and Yosemite during the summer months. WTC moves you from being a day hiker to a more serious adventurer. You will acquire skills in trip planning, preparation, equipment and wilderness safety to take you into the backcountry in all seasons, beyond roads and trails with new friends that share your interest in the outdoors.
