Meet at the fountain in Lackey St, Summer Hill at 8.45 for a 9am start (near Summer Hill train station & not far from Lewisham West light rail station). We'll ride for about 2 and a half hours (including a coffee stop somewhere) through the back streets of Summer Hill, Marrickville and Erskineville then taking a meandering route back towards Blackwattle Bay and the new Sydney fish markets by 11.15 am, where we'll go to Squid Inc. for a sit down lunch starting around 11.30 am. We'll finish around 12.30 or 1pm or whnever. Expected to be an EASY ride of about 30 klms at the most. Lots of back streets, road crossings, some street art and a few traffic lights along the way. Bring a bike in good order, a spare tube, pump and tools in case of a flat tyre. Helmet, water and sunblock if its a sunny day. If not feeling well then please do not attend. Suggest you bring cash so you can more easily pay for your portion of the meal. After lunch, I'll lead a ride back to Summer Hill or if you prefer, the fish markets are near the light rail to Darling Harbour & Central or west to Lewisham West and Dulwich Hill. Winter Grit & City Lights

Winter Grit & City Lights

Start Time: 4:00 pm Start/Finish: Holbeach Ave Carpark, Tempe Distance: Approx. 40–45km Grade: Medium (Night riding / Urban navigation) Communications: All comms will be managed here on MeetUp, so keep an eye on the Comments section for any updates. Please update your RSVP if you cannot make it, so others have a chance to attend this numbers-limited ride. Looking to shake off the winter blues with a bit of grit, urban exploring, and an excellent reward at the end? This is a late afternoon transitioning into a proper night ride, capturing the city lights from the saddle. We’ll depart Tempe at 4:00 pm sharp, snaking our way through Mascot, Alexandria, and Erskineville to hit the Wilson St Cycleway. From there, we roll into Pyrmont and hug the sparkling harbour front, rolling into Darling Square for a brief pit stop to catch our breath. The second half of the loop takes us past Circular Quay, down the Pitt St Cycleway, and navigates back south through Central, Redfern, and Waterloo. We’ll link up with the Bourke St Cycleway, heading straight for a well-earned, steaming-hot Malaysian dinner in Mascot—a perfect warm-up and send-off before the final short spin back to the Holbeach Ave carpark. Important Notes: Lights: Serious, high-quality front and rear night lights are mandatory. No faint commuter flashers, please - you need to see and be seen. If you have niggling vision problems - this ride is not for you. The Vibe: This one is not for the faint-hearted. It will be cold, and it will be dark. Good eyesight, urban riding confidence, and a healthy dose of courage and grit are required. The Rule: Strictly no weather whingers and no whiners allowed! Lol. Dress in layers, bring your winter stamina, and let's embrace the chill. Numbers: Nice and tight 7 riders at most, so be in quick. Sunday is deliberately chosen as it's a quieter in the city, which makes it a more pleasant ride overall.
