PARTCH Ensemble—the Grammy Award-winning ensemble specializing in the music of the iconoclastic composer Harry Partch—debuts newly constructed, custom-built replicas of instruments designed by Partch in their annual survey of his music. The evening begins with excerpts from the rarely heard Partch piece, “On the Seventh Day Petals Fell in Petaluma”—a kaleidoscope of swirling timbres that amazes with the composer’s “multiple exposure” technique—and concludes with the “Prologue” & “Epilogue” from Partch’s midcentury piece, “The Bewitched.” New compositions include a solo setting of one of Partch’s favorite Chinese poets (Li Po, 701-762 C.E.) and the world premiere of Daniel Corral’s “Parable of the Bitter.” Partch’s instruments entitled the Crychord, Chromelodeon II, Zymo-Xyl, and Gubagubi will have their debut performances with the Ensemble, providing what *LA Weekly* describes as “weird and wonderful sonorities, truly unlike anything else on Earth or any neighboring celestial body.” The program includes an instrument “petting zoo”: audiences are encouraged to interact with the instruments on stage after the show. Shell Sea Paintings!

Tonight we're going to be doing a little Shell Painting! You'll be able to choose from a few pre-drawn ideas, or make your own creation from scratch! Everyone will have a choice of color paints, and of various sea shells, and you will be designing a beautiful summer ocean scene on canvas! All supplies will be provided for you. This class will be held at Marmalade Cafe in El Segundo. We'll be arriving before the end of happy hour, so everyone should be able to find something off the menu. They do expect that everyone will order "something" since they're letting us meet on their property:) COST for this class: $30, to be paid in advance so I have the right amount of supplies ready:). Art Opening: Ode to the Moon

**Does your body remember when it was once a mountain?** **Does your skin remember when it was once water?** **Do you remember floating in the dark, warm ocean, before you had a name** **...were you not already tide, mineral, breath, and light?** **Ode to the Moon: If the Body is a Tide, Art is Emergence brings together works by David McDonald, Deborah Lynn Irmas, Nancy Ivanhoe, and Tia Xia. Curated by Ann Shi, the exhibition continues a poco art’s inquiry into embodiment, cosmology, and the body as a field of relations.** **Drawing upon the Taoist notion of ziran (自然), or “self-so-ing,” the exhibition considers how bodies, memories, landscapes, and materials arise through relation.
