Break the Pattern

Break the Pattern

Sat, Jun 13, 11:00 AM
From Disruptive Creativity

Creativity often begins when we stop trying to solve a problem in the most obvious way. In this first practical creativity workshop, we’ll use random words, playful constraints and group exercises to break rigid patterns of thought, loosen fixed assumptions and generate unexpected ideas. Creativity is not just about having good ideas. Often, it is about changing the conditions in which ideas appear. The session takes inspiration from Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt’s *Oblique Strategies*: a set of creative prompts designed to help artists and other creatives escape blocks, loosen fixed habits and approach problems from unexpected angles. This will be an active, participatory workshop rather than a talk. You’ll work with other people in pairs and small groups, trying out practical exercises and responding to prompts designed to interrupt familiar ways of thinking. The emphasis will be on engagement, experimentation and practical action: having a go, noticing what shifts, and exploring how unusual prompts can open up new possibilities. You do not need to be an artist, designer or creative professional. This workshop is for anyone interested in thinking more flexibly, solving problems differently, or exploring practical creativity in a friendly, hands-on setting.

Hampstead Heath Spiritual Gathering & Walk

Hampstead Heath Spiritual Gathering & Walk

Sun, May 31, 10:00 AM
From Spiritual Creatives
4.8

Our 44th Spiritual Creatives gathering - in person! Come and join us for a lovely walk and talk around Hampstead Heath. We are meeting just outside Hampstead Heath station (London Overground train) at 11.00 on Sunday the 31st of May. Please note: This is NOT Hampstead Station on the Northern Line! It is the Hampstead HEATH station. The Google link is here: [https://goo.gl/maps/AJCNoxkKNj6K9Gp77](https://goo.gl/maps/AJCNoxkKNj6K9Gp77) We will wait for people to arrive until 11.15am and then we will begin walking. If you arrive later, you will only be able to catch up with us at Kenwood House approximately between 12 and 12.30pm. You should be able to find us sitting around as a group having a drink. If the weather permits, you'll find us outside the main café, towards the back. Look for the guy with the multicoloured scarf... that's me! After a short break of 20-30 minutes, we then walk back through the Heath, taking the long way round to Parliament Hill, and conclude our stroll back to Hampstead Heath overground station around 2 to 2.30pm. (Please note that you may become so involved in your conversations that you end up losing sight of the main group! Unfortunately, there is no way for you to catch up with us once we have become separated (and we do NOT check our phones for texts or messages during our walk) so please be mindful and conscious to stay with the main group if you want to keep up. Also please bear in mind that Hampstead Heath can be muddy sometimes, so please wear the appropriate shoes). After returning to Hampstead Heath Overground station, many of our (usually hungry) members like to continue the camaraderie over lunch at one of the local cafés or restaurants. As our group has grown over the years, these gatherings can be quite large, so we usually have to split into smaller parties and explore different venues. Some of our favourite spots are Dominique’s Café (dominiquescafe.co.uk) and Silverberries (silverberry.net), both of which offer a welcoming atmosphere and delicious food. It’s a great way to wind down the walk and continue our conversations. Spiritual Creatives is a warm-hearted and popular meetup group, as you can see from our ratings and comments! We hope to meet you then! :-) Best wishes Cliff **Find out more about us at [https://www.spiritualarts.org.uk](https://www.spiritualarts.org.uk/).**

Flash Fiction - Once Upon a Pub...

Flash Fiction - Once Upon a Pub...

Tue, Jun 9, 6:00 PM
From The New Machine (Creative Writing)
4.8

YOU CAN ALSO BOOK DIRECTLY VIA OUR WEBSITE HERE: https://www.writeandpint.com/events/flash-fiction-once-upon-a-pub-a-free-book . Hi there! For this session, we'll be using a single tarot card draw to spark fast, instinctive fiction — no deliberating, no second-guessing, just you and the story that lands. The session will be hosted by published fiction writer, editor, and general story lover, Annie Percik. If you're already writing something, great! And if you're approaching the page for the very first time — that's great, too! **Whoever you are, we'd love you to come and join us.** When you arrive, please feel free to buy yourself a drink at the bar, then come and join us in the upstairs function room and say hello to some new, friendly faces before we begin. \*\*\*No experience of creative writing is necessary. \*\*\*No pressure to read your work in front of the group. **For this session, we'll be working in the spirit of flash fiction** — tight time limits, very short pieces, and a single card draw to get you going. You'll write to a prompt, trust your first instinct, and see what emerges when you don't give yourself time to overthink it. Fast, focused, and surprisingly revealing. You're welcome to use the session to develop something you're already working on, but if you're just starting out, the constraints of flash are actually a brilliant place to begin. We've been hosting writing workshops, social events, retreats, and courses for 10+ years now and we strive to make our events inclusive, friendly, informative, and highly creative. If you have **any questions whatsoever, you're very welcome to text 07891948039** and we'll answer as soon as possible! Otherwise, please RSVP, book the date in your diary, and join us for this exciting event. Cheers! Write & a Pint
