L is for Liquid History - A guided history walk along the River Fleet

**Join us for another one of (LoMAZ member) Richard Barnett’s epic walks. Always oversubscribed interest to these events.** *“He’s a bit of a legend!”* Clare (host) This time we shall be exploring one of London’s many lost rivers- the greatest of them all - the mighty Fleet. A prehistoric tributary, a Roman trade route, a medieval moat, an eighteenth-century eyesore and a Victorian sewer. The history of the Fleet captures both the potent symbolism and the stomach-churning reality of London’s relationship with dirt. Join us for a fun afternoon picnic this bank holiday - with tasty snacks and great conversations! ​🌳 **Where to Find Us** ​We’ll be gathering in our usual spot, under the Shakespeare Oak at Primrose Hill. ​ **What to Bring** ​To make this a fun communal vibe, we reccomend bringing a snack or drink to share. ​While any food is welcome, it would be great to see some Korean or Japanese inspired treats! e.g. Onigiri, Kimbap, Mochi... 🍙🥢 ​If you can bring a picnic blanket, or anything else that might be useful at a picnic, that would be really helpful. R is for Richard Dadd, Beyond Bedlam at Royal Academy of Arts

★ ★ ★ ★ *“ethereal, profoundly sad beauty”* (The Guardian) ★ ★ ★ ★ *“intricate and profoundly eccentric”* (The Telegraph) **Join us at the Royal Academy of Arts for the Richard Dadd, Beyond Bedlam exhibition.** The highly original works of Victorian artist Richard Dadd, best known for his fairy paintings, draw upon literature, legend and memory to portray elaborate worlds that radiate imaginative power. The first years of Richard Dadd's life promised the conventional success of a highly talented British artist. The young Dadd was a student of the Royal Academy Schools and founding member of a group of artist-friends known as the Clique. In the early 1840s Dadd was already establishing himself as a painter of Shakespearean fairy scenes when he embarked on an ambitious trip across the Eastern Mediterranean that would inspire him for the rest of his life. On his return to Britain, Dadd began experiencing delusions, which led to him killing his father. Dadd spent the rest of his life as a patient in Bethlem and Broadmoor hospitals, where he was encouraged to continue producing oil paintings and watercolours of extraordinary delicacy and vividness. Despite Dadd's seclusion in the Victorian asylum system, he was able to draw upon his memory, imagination and abiding interest in literature and legends to render fantastical worlds replete with exquisite detail. These paintings and watercolours are among the most original and imaginative works in British art. Dadd's art was all but forgotten until it resurfaced in the 1960s and 70s. In the years since, his work has continued to inspire artists, writers and musicians, including the band Queen, who named a song after one of Dadd's most celebrated paintings, *The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke*. Bringing together more than 100 works, this exhibition tells the story of Dadd's life and art, as radical and imaginative in his time as it is today. EVENT FULL V for Van Gogh House London

**Join us at the Van Gogh House London for a guided tour at 3.30pm of the residence of a young Van Gogh from 1873-4.** 87 Hackford Road is a Grade II listed building that has been renovated and conserved by the Wang family. Built in the 1820s, by 2012 the property had fallen into a state of disrepair. Bordering on dereliction, the building was purchased at auction by James Wang and Alice Childs, who saw the potential to bring this cultural landmark back to life. Conservation works took place over the next 7 years, guided by an ambition to save as much existing material as possible, and making sensitive repairs where necessary. It was important for the house to remain first and foremost a dwelling – and not a museum, allowing it to remain in practical use as a home as well as a venue for artist residencies and exhibitions.
