T is for Thames River Police Museum (Wapping)

John Burns, the trade unionist once famously said of London’s river "Every drop is liquid history". In 1798 a newly formed body of police officers brought much needed law and order to that most historic of rivers. The Thames River Police was the first policing body ever to be set up. Its sole objective was the prevention and detection of crime on the Thames and it was to become the forerunner of many other police forces throughout the world. **Join us for a rare entrance into this museum as part of the ‘Wapping Shindig’ community event run by the Turks Head Charity. (Website under construction).** This small museum located at Wapping police station, which for more than two centuries has been the headquarters of the River Police. The museum is housed in the old carpenters workshop and is administered by the Thames Police Association. 🛹 **From concrete to cult status - step into the heart of London skate culture.** This Meetup explores Skate 50 at the Southbank Centre, a vibrant exhibition celebrating 50 years of the iconic Undercroft skate space. Blending film, sound and visual storytelling, it captures the raw creativity, community spirit and global influence of a scene that grew from a hidden corner into a cultural landmark. 1. We typically socialise at cafés after the exhibit, nice, independent ones, not chains and not at pubs. If the event is late on a Saturday we go to a nice bar/pub for drinks after. This meetup is inclusive and everyone is welcome to join.

3. Once we go in we may separate, feel free to explore the exhibit by yourself, we don't have to be together. Some people like chatting to others while exploring and other people prefer to be with their own thoughts. You are welcome to express yourself and do whatever helps you feel free. The coffee part afterwards is all about socialising so don’t miss it!

**Join us for a visit to the Museum of London Docklands**, **which tells the fascinating story of London's docks and their profound impact on the city.** The museum is set in a refurbished 200-year-old sugar warehouse and reveals the long history of the capital as a port through stories of trade, migration and commerce, from Roman settlement to Docklands' regeneration. Naturalmente, considerando il tempo metereologico inglese, c'e' sempre la possibilita' che sia debba spostare il picinic a venerdi', ma speriamo di no! ;-) Si prega di controllare il sabato mattina... Time to polish up your Italian vocabulary (including the Italians) and join us for one of our wonderful picnics.
