W is for...Whistler at Tate Britain

*“A luscious, seductive blockbuster.”* (Jonathan Jones, *Guardian*) **Join us at Tate Britain as we explore the work of the rule-breaking American artist James McNeill Whistler...** A truly global figure, Whistler re-wrote the rules of what it meant to be an artist. He pioneered new and innovative techniques, creating astonishingly beautiful, ethereal visions of modern life that would earn him a place as one of the most influential artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. This retrospective – the first major European exhibition of Whistler’s work in 30 years – brings together the artist’s world-famous paintings alongside rarely, or never seen, works. It includes exquisite portraits, drawings, prints, and designs, from as early as his teens in St. Petersburg to the enigmatic late self-portraits. The exhibition presents both a boldly experimental artist and cosmopolitan celebrity, disrupting the conventions of Victorian society in pursuit of truth, beauty, and progress **Read more here:** https://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/tate-britain/whistler **MEET DETAILS:** **FROM 1.45pm: MEET IN TATE BRITAIN DJANOGLY CAFE (optional)** Tate Britain, Millbank, London SW1P 4RG Look out for host/s who will be wearing LoMAZ badges. **2.30pm: ENTER THE EXHIBITION** Tate Britain, Millbank, London SW1P 4RG **4.15pm - Late: PUB SOCIAL (optional)** ***Location tbc 48 hours before event*** **TICKETS:** **You will need to purchase your own ticket for this event.** **Please book here:** https://shop.tate.org.uk/ticket/date?cgid=375283 and choose the 2:30pm slot (or thereabouts). Join us for a relaxed afternoon picnic with delicious food and great conversations! Whether you're a regular or joining us for the first time, everyone's welcome! 🌳 **Where to Find Us** We’ll be gathering in our usual spot, under the Shakespeare Oak at Primrose Hill. **What to Bring** To make this a fun communal vibe, we reccomend bringing a snack or drink to share. While **any** food is welcome, it would be great to see some Korean or Japanese inspired treats! e.g. Onigiri, Kimbap, Mochi... 🍙🥢 If you can bring a picnic blanket, or anything else that might be useful at a picnic, that would be really helpful. Unfortunately BBQ's are not allowed in the park. **Who Can Join?** Everyone with an interest in Korean & Japanese culture is welcome. Our events have a friendly, inclusive atmosphere. There's usually a mix of newcomers and regulars who will make you feel welcome. 🌤 **Weather** Fingers crossed for good weather. We can handle a light shower, but if it rains heavily we'll move to a pub nearby. I'll leave a comment here if we decide to move. Let’s leave no litter behind, and create some great memories together!
