JANMASHTAMI - Ever been to a birthday party for Krishna? Here’s your chance

JANMASHTAMI - Ever been to a birthday party for Krishna? Here’s your chance

Fri, Sep 4, 10:00 PM
From Columbus Festivals Meetup Group

Hey Columbus! On **Friday, September 4**, we're hosting **Sri Krishna Janmashtami**, one of the biggest celebrations of the year at ISKCON Columbus, and it's a free even and everyone's is welcome to experience a block party. Think of Janmashtami as a huge birthday celebration for **Krishna**, one of the central figures of India’s spiritual tradition and the speaker of the *Bhagavad Gita*. For us, it’s a spiritual celebration. But it’s also a genuinely fun community festival with **live music, food, dancing, colorful ceremonies, performances, families, college students, and people from all kinds of backgrounds hanging out together.** We’ll have: • **Nonstop live kirtan** — energetic mantra music where everyone can sing and dance along • **Block party on 8th Ave** throughout the evening • **Lots of vegetarian food booths** • **Live dance and music performances** • **Abhishek** — a traditional bathing ceremony for Krishna that’s beautiful to watch • **Kids activities** • Stories and conversations about Krishna • Plenty of people who will be experiencing all of this for the first time too There’s no expectation that you know the customs, dress a certain way, or participate in anything you’re uncomfortable with. **Come as you are.** Ask questions. Try the food. Listen to the music. Watch the ceremonies. Dance if you feel like it. Stay for 30 minutes or hang out with us all the way until midnight. 📅 **Friday, September 4** ⏰ **6 PM–Midnight** 📍 **379 W 8th Ave, Columbus** 🎟️ **FREE admission — everyone is welcome** **Parking Details** * Free street parking on Neil or Michigan beyond King Ave. * Free parking on 8th Ave only on SUNDAYS * Paid Garage Parking on 9th Ave * Parking is NOT allowed on W 8th Ave on weekdays * Please do not park in the neighbors' parking spots in the back alley. If you’ve ever driven past ISKCON Columbus and wondered, *“What actually goes on in there?”* 😄 this would probably be the most fun night of the year to find out. Bring a friend, bring the family, or just come by yourself. We’d love to have you. Questions? Feel free to comment here or contact **Alankar at (805) 444-7691**.

Pot Luck in the Park!

Pot Luck in the Park!

Sun, Sep 27, 4:00 PM
From Columbus English Chat with Native Speakers
4.9

Inspired by our successful events like "Saturday Mornings @ East Market" and other "Pot Luck in the Park" lunches, this gathering promises to be a blend of fun conversations, language exchange, and cultural insights, all while sharing wonderful foods with each other. **Please bring a dish to share and anything you would like to drink.** We will provide plates, plastic silverware and napkins. So, come hungry and ready to chat! Note: Meetup has recently raised their charge to us to maintain our account. They are charging us $300 for one year. In addition to that fee, we have been purchasing any paper goods and supplies needed to carry on our activities. So we are asking that our members help out by donating $5 or whatever they are able to at each Pot Luck Meeting so that we can continue to have the wonderful activities that we do. Many Thanks!
