Paper and markers will be provided but guests are encouraged to bring their own supplies too. Sessions are uninstructed and creative exploration is encouraged. We’ll participate in the Open Wetlands program, then walk over to the beach. Please bring your preferred sketching supplies - you can get fancy or keep it simple. We’ll also bring some sketching supplies to share.About the Nature Nexus Institute facilitators: **Stacey Vigallon**, MS, EdD (Executive Director + Environmental Education Director) leads community science programs and art+science activities for community members of all ages. Since 2007, she has been a project biologist for Snowy Plover and Least Tern monitoring programs in collaboration with Los Angeles Audubon Society. She is also a LACMA Teaching Artist, specializing in science illustration and nature sketching. **Brian Young** (Arts & Education Specialist) integrates art and natural history in his work and leads NNI’s nature storytelling efforts through video, art, and music, capturing student and community connections to nature. He helps lead students in NNI education programs and community volunteers during habitat restoration events. He holds a degree in art from UC Santa Cruz and has over a decade of experience in restoration and education programming. *The project is funded by a Section 6 grant through USFWS, in collaboration with CDFW and Los Angeles Audubon Society.*

This essential practice presents the ultimate challenge to the artist and once mastered, opens up a world of possibilities. Whether you aim to become the next great figurative artist or just find joy in the process of drawing, this course will set you on your path and will give you the tools you need to create a successful body of work! We emphasize the academic approach to drawing the figure from life and the various techniques and mediums used for rendering three-dimensional form. Composed of three and four week long poses, each student will be given ample time to study the shapes, values and edges of the figure and explore different techniques. Students may choose to work in charcoal, white chalk and graphite or a combination of both. Matt is completing a Masters of Fine Art at the Laguna College of Art and Design. Duckett’s work has been exhibited extensively across the United States and internationally and featured in national publications including Fine Art Connoisseur and Poets & Artists.
