Free: Family Dance with Berkeley Old-Time Music Convention

Free: Family Dance with Berkeley Old-Time Music Convention

Sun, Sep 20, 6:00 PM
From Berkeley Dancing Meetup

FREE: Family Dance, in the style of old-time square dancing. Little kids are welcome! Folks of all ages are welcome! Caller Janine Smith leads the group through fun, easy dances! Live music by the Manning Mud Stompers! This event is part of the Berkeley Old-Time Music Convention, which runs from September 16th through 20th. The **Manning Mud Stompers** are a big group of exceptional young musicians: Daisy Caire, Natalie Caton, Nikolai Davis, Helen Feeney, Jesse Fichman, Iola Gravois, Clio Levy-Tongate, Jasper Manning, Jayna Manning, Bodie Oakley, and Noah Steele are all students (or former students) at Berkeley’s Manning Music. The **Janine Smith** experience is what you get when you cross a howdy-ma’am-BBQ-and-beans Honky Tonk with Zoom dancing and sprinkle on some twinkly lights for sass. She loves calling FUN dances, squares, circles, longways sets, heck maybe a couple of Singing Squares, too. Her teaching is clear and to-the-point, though she has been known to goof around a bit. She’s one of the “Hot Square Babes,” a quintet of female callers who threw a monthly Square Dance Party in the DC area from 2004-2018, a founding member of the DC Square Dance Collective (2011), and an organizer of the DC/Baltimore area annual Dare to Be Square Weekend. We just think it's an awesome event!

RSVP for Best of the Bay Business Referral Exchange!

From Best of the Bay Business Referral Exchange
5.0

We meet almost every Wednesday of the year; if we are "dark" for any reason (usually limited to Christmas and New Year's Day weeks, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and sometimes the 4th of July week), you will be told as a response to your RSVP. We recently started meeting in person the 1st Wednesday of each month in downtown Oakland at an "Oakstop" location at 1721 Broadway #201 (street level; doors face sidewalk on Broadway). Metered on street parking (you can pre-pay before 8am, which is when charging for time actually begins; most close-by metered spaces are limited to 60 minutes though it might be possible to extend time via a parking app). There are also parking lots in the area. On all other Wednesdays each month we meet online via Zoom. When you RSVP for a meeting after your request to meet with us has been approved, or at the time of your initial request, please include a short description of your business and also include your contact information in case we need to reach you before the meeting. You can attend our chapter twice as a visitor (this Meetup group seeks to find visitors to our group as a first step toward formally joining Best of the Bay) before submitting a formal application to join. Please also let us know how many guests you want to bring and tell us something about what is/are their professions.
