RSVP for Best of the Bay Business Referral Exchange!

From Best of the Bay Business Referral Exchange
5.0

We meet almost every Wednesday of the year; if we are "dark" for any reason (usually limited to Christmas and New Year's Day weeks, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and sometimes the 4th of July week), you will be told as a response to your RSVP. We recently started meeting in person the 1st Wednesday of each month in downtown Oakland at an "Oakstop" location at 1721 Broadway #201 (street level; doors face sidewalk on Broadway). Metered on street parking (you can pre-pay before 8am, which is when charging for time actually begins; most close-by metered spaces are limited to 60 minutes though it might be possible to extend time via a parking app). There are also parking lots in the area. On all other Wednesdays each month we meet online via Zoom. When you RSVP for a meeting after your request to meet with us has been approved, or at the time of your initial request, please include a short description of your business and also include your contact information in case we need to reach you before the meeting. You can attend our chapter twice as a visitor (this Meetup group seeks to find visitors to our group as a first step toward formally joining Best of the Bay) before submitting a formal application to join. Please also let us know how many guests you want to bring and tell us something about what is/are their professions.

Legal Essentials for Game Developers: Privacy, Safety & IP

Legal Essentials for Game Developers: Privacy, Safety & IP

Wed, Jul 22, 12:30 AM
From SF Game Development
4.6

SF Game Development is excited to be featuring two incredible talks on the legal essentials every game developer needs to know — privacy, safety, and intellectual property. Join us in person at **DNA Lounge** on **Tuesday, July 21st from 5:30pm–9:00pm**. Don't miss this unique opportunity to learn from industry experts, who will take the stage at 7:00 pm. Whether you're a seasoned game developer, an aspiring artist, a student, or an indie creator, this event is designed for you. Come mingle with like-minded professionals and enthusiasts, and enjoy some pizza sponsored by SF Game Development and any additional pizza available for purchase from the DNA restaurant. There's a full-service bar at the venue with all proceeds supporting the venue. Your participation helps us continue hosting fantastic events in their 3,000 sqft space. You'll also get a chance to demo indie games and meet the speakers involved with the event. **Get Equipped With IP Tips & Tricks** **Jonathan Downing — Attorney & Storyteller at Tyz Law Group PC** Intellectual property law can be complicated, and there can be very real consequences for getting things wrong. But by equipping yourself with some basic understanding of the ins and outs of how this body of law operates, you can both avoid costly missteps and better protect your work. Jonathan has been gaming since the days of blowing dust out of NES cartridges and trying to figure out how to work a Power Glove, and combines that lifelong passion with over a decade of experience in the video games legal space. An intellectual property counselor with expertise in copyright across the entertainment and technology spaces, he's worked both in-house for a AAA game studio and as outside counsel for developers and publishers of all shapes and sizes. At Tyz Law Group, he helps clients protect and enforce their IP rights in an increasingly crowded market. (He never did figure out how to work that Power Glove, though.) **Kid's Privacy and Safety: Navigating Unprecedented Complexity** **Joe Newman — Senior Legal Counsel at k-ID** Today, a frankly outrageous number of new laws and regulations are targeting kids, games, and online interactions. Learn how a team of gaming compliance veterans (and mega-nerds) have been rewriting the compliance playbook for the whole tech industry. Joe has spent over a decade in the video games industry working on kids' privacy and safety issues — at think tanks, as in-house counsel for Electronic Arts and Ubisoft, and in private practice counseling everyone from indie teams to some of the largest video game publishers in the world. At k-ID, he builds automated compliance solutions that scale for the next generation of online services, delivering meaningful global compliance while empowering kids and teens everywhere. **See you all there!** Thank you everyone for RSVPing for our SF Game Development event with our fellow indie game developers. We can't wait to see everyone there. Make sure to arrive at 5:30pm for networking and game demos. You MUST RSVP on Meetup, Luma, or Eventbrite to secure your spot.
