This is a social chess meetup. Even if you don’t know how to play or are an absolute beginner you are welcome to come socialize and maybe even get a lesson. I will be teaching free lessons, just ask me when you are there and if there is time I will give you a lesson.. I will provide 5 chess sets & clocks enough for 10 players. But I do ask that if you can please bring a set (& clock if you have it). Thank you.

LAST NIGHT AT THE TELEGRAPH CLUB BY MALINDA LO // CHAPTERS 25-36 Date: 07/30 Thursday Time: 6:30pm Location: The Coffee Lab (34-20 21st Ave, Astoria, NY 11106) Look for the “BOOK CLUB” sign on a table at Coffee Lab. This book club is intended for lesbians and queer women but feel free to bring along any pals/allies who like to read. A quick note: Since we are meeting at a local coffee shop, please do try to support them by grabbing a drink or snack during the book club.

Queer Book Club - Seasons of Glass and Iron: Stories by Amal El-Mohtar

Hey Everyone! **Welcome to Queer Book Club! We read books about, for and written by queer people! Follow us on Instagram @queer_book_club Our next meetup will be held on Tuesday August 11th at Young Ethel’s in Park Slope BK This month we will be reading Seasons of Glass and Iron: Stories by Amal El-Mohtar ** Full of glimpses into gleaming worlds and fairy tales with teeth, Seasons of Glass and Stories is a collection of acclaimed and awarded work from Amal El-Mohtar. With confidence and style, El-Mohtar guides us through exquisitely told and sharply observed tales about life as it is, was, and could be. Like miscellany from other worlds, these stories are told in letters, diary entries, reference materials, folktales, and lyrical prose. **At the end of the discussion we can vote on which book we read for next month so bring a queer suggestion. Make sure to support our amazing host bar, by buying drinks! They are so great to support us so we must do our part in return! We are a lovely accepting group of queers and allies, and all are welcome! Our book list is officially too long for meetup and will now live on this google doc!

Gotham Go Group - Tuesdays at the Hungarian

Every Tuesday evening from 5 - closing. All are welcome, from beginners to pros. We usually have 8-15 players show up. This is a casual coffee house environment so don't expect a Go tournament kind of silence, but rather a din of conversation that is probably the vanguard of intellectual New York. Absolutely free, it costs nothing to play, and there is nothing to join. But PLEASE do get a drink, dessert or both to support the good folks at the Hungarian Pastry Shop who so graciously allow us to use their storied and humble space. We have some boards and stones, but it never hurts to bring your own.
