4.8

On the first Saturday of every month, we meet at the base of the Palou & Phelps hill and join the Friends of Palou Phelps community group and SF Rec & Park on their volunteer workday. Our workdays will vary every Saturday, but both the hill and the garden will be the focus on these days. So come ready to get your hands dirty! **\*\*\*\*Please sign up through the official SFRPD portal here; THANK YOU:** [https://sfrpd.my.salesforce-sites.com/SFRPDCalendar](https://sfrpd.my.salesforce-sites.com/SFRPDCalendar) *** Background: Nature in the City started the Palou Phelps project as a means to preserve a native grassland habitat from the threat of development. The habitat is one of the few native grasslands remaining in San Francisco and is vital to local pollinators. website: https://natureinthecity.org/palou-phelps/

Sierra Club Military Outdoors proudly announces a free film premier: As a U.S. Air Force veteran, museum professional, and Director of the **War Memorial Veterans Gallery**, Yolanda Faye believes that military service does not end when the uniform comes off. It evolves into new forms of leadership, storytelling, creativity, and service to the community. Veterans, military families, Sierra Club members, and the public are invited to the free premiere of Yolanda’s first documentary film, which explores the life and work of Chilean artist Hans Casanova and the creation of the Veterans Gallery’s newest exhibition, *Transmutation: The Art of Hans Casanova.* Following the screening, Yolanda and Hans will take part in a live artist-and-curator conversation. Guests will then be invited to visit the exhibition and experience the artwork in person with the curator and the artist. **This evening is about more than art. It is an opportunity to gather, connect, and recognize the many ways veterans continue to serve—as artists, cultural leaders, storytellers, mentors, and builders of community.** Whether you served in uniform, are part of a military family, or believe in the power of art to create understanding across different experiences, *you are warmly welcome.* **Free Film Premiere** August 1 Herbst Theatre, 4:45 p.m. Film duration: 42 minutes **Artist and Curator Q&A** Duration: 20 minutes **Exhibition Opening** **Transmutation: The Art of Hans Casanova** **War Memorial Veterans Gallery** War Memorial Veterans Building 401 Van Ness Avenue First Floor, Room 102 San Francisco **Please reserve your free tickets on Eventbright here:** [https://www.eventbrite.com/e/transmutation-world-film-premiere-live-artist-talk-tickets-1992708380408?utm_experiment=test_share_listing&aff=ebdsshios&sg=5de777cafaf15fa7c6a61d10d9460b8b9b7e78b5da1e557dd4816a453afc412e3cc19ee9c95aafa352858c4386a1ae7c5ff16f97a050b100ba877df3615c930fcc2a5275249f3e4baa232bc9d5](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/transmutation-world-film-premiere-live-artist-talk-tickets-1992708380408?utm_experiment=test_share_listing&aff=ebdsshios&sg=5de777cafaf15fa7c6a61d10d9460b8b9b7e78b5da1e557dd4816a453afc412e3cc19ee9c95aafa352858c4386a1ae7c5ff16f97a050b100ba877df3615c930fcc2a5275249f3e4baa232bc9d5)
