The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

Tue, Jul 7, 10:00 PM
From NYC Classics Book Club

This month’s read: The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson Join us to discuss this seminal Gothic horror novella, first published in 1886. Set in Victorian London, the story examines questions of identity, morality, and the darker aspects of human nature. Please note: we are meeting in Central Park (see information below or see https://tinyurl.com/yusfhnnh for exact location). Please bring a blanket or chair, and any snacks or drinks you would like to share. If it rains, we will meet at the Hugh as usual. Spaces are limited; RSVP required. You are welcome to participate regardless of whether you've finished the book. Looking forward to seeing you there! \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- An intriguing combination of fantast thriller and moral allegory, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde depicts the gripping struggle of two opposing personalities — one essentially good, the other evil — for the soul of one man. Its tingling suspense and intelligent and sensitive portrayal of man's dual nature reveals Stevenson as a writer of great skill and originality, whose power to terrify and move us remains, over a century later, undiminished.
