We’ll be in a section of the Arroyo Seco and learn about some the history and unique plant-life of the area. We’ll see edible and medicinal plants on our short walk, and will learn some basics about making cordage, nets, and bags. You will practice hands-on making cordage, nets, bags, brushes, etc. A very good introduction to this ancient art. Bring your canteen. Location — you’ll get details upon registration. $45 ($30 senior and students). Please register to attend and for location. Hahamonga Watershed County Park is our field office, the class may be in a different location.

New Realtor Workshop: Getting Started

An educational workshop for newly licensed California Realtors to learn, ask questions, and connect with other real estate professionals. ## Event Description Just earned your California real estate license? Join us for an educational workshop created specifically for new Realtors who want to better understand how the real estate business works beyond the licensing exam. This session will cover many of the practical questions new agents ask as they begin their careers, including: • How do I find my first clients? • What happens after I meet my first buyer or seller? • Choosing the right brokerage for your professional goals There will also be time for questions, discussion, and networking with other new real estate professionals. This workshop is educational in nature and is intended to help attendees better understand the real estate profession. **Complimentary hors d'oeuvres will be served.** ## Our Community The Southern California New Realtor Network is more than a workshop series. Our goal is to create a welcoming community where newly licensed real estate professionals can meet others entering the industry, exchange ideas, ask questions, and continue learning together. Throughout his career, he has mentored and educated thousands of real estate professionals and frequently speaks on topics related to the housing market, professional development, and the real estate industry. We’ll bring the tools you need, but if you have saws, files or rasps, bring them. It’s not that hard to make a good functional gourd. We used to each make one before a week at Dirttime, and then if we cut it just right, we’d have a dish, and a bowl. Bushcraft skills? Survival Skill? Whatever you call it, it’s a great skill, and a great opportunity to meet with like-minded people. $45 ($30 students/seniors) Please register to attend and for location. SURVIVAL SKILLS, URBAN FOCUS

Friday, October 9, 7 to 9 p.m., SURVIVAL SKILLS class, URBAN Focus Pasadena City College Extension. Call (626) 585-7608 for information and registration. Cost to college is $49. Class topics include uses of wild plants for food and medicine, storing food and water, sources of water you hadn’t thought about, finding and purifying water, what to do when the power goes out, alternatives to the flush toilet, emergency shelters, tools, first aid, contents of a “survival pack,” and more. There’s really SO MUCH that could be covered so bring your notebook and bring your questions! We cover all the basics, and answer the many questions you may have. Taught by Christopher Nyerges.

Next Century Toastmasters Meetup

Want to develop your speaking skills? Join our one and a quarter hour meeting. We start with prepared speeches. Each speaker will then receive a 2-3 minute oral evaluation to help him or her understand what was done well in the speech and what areas offer opportunities for growth. The table topics section provides the opportunity to practice thinking on your feet and impromptu speaking for 1-2 minutes. Our meetings are always fun and guests are always welcome. Del Rey Toastmasters is a Toastmasters club in Marina Del Rey. We help people to become better public speakers and leaders. Our weekly Thursday meetings at 7 pm offer an energetic, fun, and supportive environment in which our members can develop their public speaking and leadership skills, and have the opportunity to meet other people who have similar goals. We meet in person on the first, third and fifth (if applicable) Thursdays of every month and on Zoom for the second and fourth Thursdays of every month. Our in-person meetings are held at the Santa Monica Windjammers Yacht Club in Marina Del Rey. Our meetings start promptly at 7 pm and wrap up by 9 pm. We recommend arriving 5 - 10 minutes before the meeting starts to get organized. In our meetings, you can learn and practice impromptu speaking skills with Table Topics, present prepared speeches and obtain feedback, learn to provide feedback (evaluations), participate in running meetings, learn interesting ideas from your fellow members, and enhance your speaking and leadership skills with the Toastmasters educational program (called Pathways).
