For the second consecutive meeting, we're going to a new location! This one is gonna be hosted by a longtime member named Gabby who, by the way, hosted once before in 2023 in Forest Hills, Queens. Huge thanks to her for hooking things up for us once again! The night before this meeting, I'll email all the details to everyone who's on the RSVP list. For now, be advised that there are two "semi-friendly" cats, and the building is wheelchair accessible. Space is limited for this meeting (the cats will get stressed with a huge crowd) so please only RSVP if you're pretty gosh-darned sure that you can actually make it. And if you do RSVP and can't make it, please un-RSVP as early as possible so that someone on the wait list will be able to make use of your spot. Cool? Thanks and see you at Gabby's place!

It's been four months since our last meeting in Washington Heights, and thanks to Deborah (who hosted once before in 2025), we're going back! The night before we meet, I'll email all the details to everyone on the RSVP, but for now, here are a couple of things to be aware of: (1) There are no pets but "dogs lived here during the last two years," says Deborah. (2) It's an elevator building but there are a few steps involved (one outside and two inside the apartment) so it's not wheelchair accessible. (3) Bringing a snack or beverage is encouraged. Winterfat Writing Circle #2: Deconstructing Fate

An intuitive writing group for writers and readers to enter into their body and re-imagine their self-experience. Winterfat Writing Circle is a subset of [Winterfat Presse](https://winterfatpresse.blogspot.com/ "https://winterfatpresse.blogspot.com/"). Our goal is to create spaces where writers and readers can enter into their body and re-imagine their self-experience, particularly through dissident ethics our editorial team draws from authors like Audre Lorde, Gwendolyn Brooks, and June Jordan. **This writing circle's theme is: 'Deconstructing Fate,' based on the above June Jordan poem,** *I Must Become a Menace to My Enemies*. Each writing circle uses the same format, but addresses a different theme. We begin with brief introductions, and then collectively read a relevant piece of writing to the prompt, which our team crafts uniquely for each group. We review and discuss the prompt, then have individual writing time. This is followed by an optional open mic and shared reflection portion. Please bring a writing utensil, paper, and an open mind. Craft is in session. **Itinerary** People are welcome starting at **6 o'clock**, and you can come and meet other writers, get a drink, socialize and hang out as you like until 7 when we will start readings. At **7 o'clock** we formally get together as a group to listen to readings from those looking for feedback. * We do not select readers based on order of arrival or a sign-up sheet, so if you have work until late but still want to come and read, you can! * Each reader gets five (5) minutes to read, so please select a section of work which is appropriate for that time limit. * We welcome narrative prose (fiction and non-fiction), poetry, and scripts (be they for screen or stage), so long as it is writing that you're serious about. * We'll then spend another five (5) minutes in discussion. This is time for the listeners to provide feedback on the reading and discussing the craft in general. We welcome (and encourage) constructive criticism, so long as it is done with respect. This is just as important as the reading, and is done as an open conversation not lead by the reader or the host, so no hand raising required! * We try to get to as many people who want to read as we can, so if there are a lot of attendees we will be very strict on time. * We take a short break at **8 o'clock** . At **9 o'clock** we finish readings and start our formal social hour. Meet new friends, connect with old ones, exchange longer works for review, or just let loose.
