So You Wanna Be an Actor? Hi friendssss! I’ve found that it can be surprisingly hard to make time to see fellow actors, writers, models, and other creative people outside of class, rehearsals, and work. So I wanted to create a casual weekly space where we can connect, meet new people, share what we’re working on, and build community. This is our very first event, so thank you for being part of it! As we grow, the location may change if I find a spot that’s an even better fit for the group. The vibe is less of a formal networking event and more of a relaxed creative meetup where people can talk about acting, auditions, projects, industry experiences, goals, or whatever else is on their minds. A few notes: * No drinking is necessary—totally up to you. * The bar also has food, soda, and other non-alcoholic options available. * Feel free to invite actor friends and other creatives who would enjoy the community. * Come as you are—whether you’re just starting out or have been in the industry for years. Welcome back! Or if it’s your first time with us, welcome! We are the **[Brooklyn Alternative Musical Theater Collective](https://www.bkalttheater.com/)**, and we'd love for you to join us at the lovely [Secret Pour](https://www.instagram.com/secretpour/) by the Kosciuszko J train to showcase some of our works in progress. Do you have short scenes you want to be read aloud? Do you have songs you want to perform? Good news, we have talented actors and singers ready to engage with your material. Need feedback on your work? Just ask! We’ll rip it to shreds! No acting or improv experience needed! Come laugh, connect, and meet new people through fun, guided improv activities in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy a 1-hour interactive improv class followed by a 1-hour social mixer with light refreshments and snacks included. This is a ticketed event — A pre-purchased ticket is required to attend. You will have great fun doing 3 minute scenes with other folks and will all be assigned a type of scene and a character you will be portraying! You might be an ET, the devil, a saint, Jesus, an angel, a cat, a dog, a bird, a 100 year old person, a teenager, a baby, a tree, a person on their first date, a ghost, a lottery winner, etc. In my cutting edge innovative IMPROV ACTING CLASS I will train you to fear nothing and to have the confidence to do anything that you are called upon to do even "against type” and have a relaxed and a self assured style. After a long break the Carl Velas ACTING STUDIO is resuming weekly classes in Dramatic Acting. Each class will develop a short Dramatic scene starting with a reading of the script and ending with a 'staged' performance. Everyone will get a chance to participate as both an Actor in the scene and an observer in the audience. The assumption is that anyone who attends a meeting of this group is already capable of Acting to a certain degree and is ready and willing to jump right into the scene. The goal of each meeting is not only to determine if you have what it takes to be a Dramatic Actor, but whether or not you enjoy it enough to do it rather than go to the beach.
