This is Pop Art—but not simply a retrospective. *Guggenheim Pop: 1960 to Now* traces the explosive emergence of Pop in the early 1960s and follows its influence all the way into contemporary art. Advertising. Comic strips. Consumer products. Movies. Mass media. Celebrity. Everyday objects. Artists took imagery that surrounded ordinary people and completely transformed the boundaries between popular culture and fine art. And we're talking about some **very recognizable names**: 🎨 **Andy Warhol** 🎨 **Roy Lichtenstein** 🎨 **Yayoi Kusama** 🎨 **Claes Oldenburg & Coosje van Bruggen** 🎨 **Richard Hamilton** 🎨 **Jim Dine** ...alongside contemporary artists who continue to reinterpret Pop's influence today. The exhibition also tells an important Guggenheim story. In 1963, curator Lawrence Alloway organized *Six Painters and the Object* at the Guggenheim—the **first museum presentation of Pop Art in New York**. More than six decades later, this exhibition looks at where Pop began and what became of its legacy. *** ## ⭐ SOME VERY SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS There are several works here that make this exhibition particularly interesting. 🍌 **Maurizio Cattelan's *Comedian*** — yes, THAT artwork: the banana attached to the wall. 🏸 **Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen's *Soft Shuttlecock*** — being shown in New York for the first time in 25 years. ✨ And **Yayoi Kusama's *INFINITY MIRRORED ROOM – DANCING LIGHTS THAT FLEW UP TO THE UNIVERSE***, a major loan to the exhibition. Having a Guggenheim Museum Educator guide us through this for an hour should make an enormous difference. Rather than simply looking at the works, we'll be able to understand **why they mattered, what the artists were responding to, and how Pop changed modern art.** # 🌀 AND THEN — SOMETHING COMPLETELY NEW! ## TARYN SIMON — A BRAND-NEW GUGGENHEIM EXHIBITION After our private Pop tour concludes, we're not finished! We'll continue on our own through the Guggenheim's **brand-new major exhibition by Taryn Simon**, opening September 18—just eight days before we arrive. And this one sounds fascinating. Simon is known for using photography and storytelling to examine the hidden systems, unseen forces and narratives that shape the world around us. For this major Guggenheim exhibition, she has created an entirely **new body of work** incorporating: 📷 Never-before-seen photographs 🎥 Video 📝 Text 🗿 Sculpture 🌀 Interactive installation And here's what makes it particularly appropriate for the Guggenheim: **The exhibition fills the entire Rotunda.** Rather than following one predetermined route, visitors will be able to choose their own pathways through a huge constellation of imagery and ideas spiraling through Frank Lloyd Wright's extraordinary building. Hi everyone! One of my biggest passions in life is art and its history. I love sharing my own artistic knowledge as well as learning new perspectives of it from fellow art lovers. I would like to try to execute a small art crawl on Saturday. There are a sprinkling of art galleries in Jersey City we can go to that are normally open from 11 am to 6 pm. Here are the galleries I found that are walking distance: Edit: I updated the third one, the previous gallery is permanently closed. For this event, we can just do 2 or 3 galleries depending on weather and mood! All-New Fall Chelsea Art Gallery Walk

I hope you are having a wonderful Summer so far. Please join us for the first art gallery MeetUp walk of this Fall on 10/03/26 at 11 AM. Chelsea is about to have dozens of openings starting on September 10th. This walk includes new solo shows by international artists, including painting, sculpture, photography, and more as available. Join us as we explore a fantastic museum-quality show of sculptures and others works by Lynda Benglis, spanning five decades of her career. Benglis broke new ground in 1968 by pouring latex on the floor of her studio, essentially blurring the lines between painting and sculpture. At Gagosian, we will explore a superb Brice Marden retrospective, including works on loan from major institutions. Chelsea Afternoon (New York Day Trip)

I think a case can be made that the Chelsea area of Manhattan contains more galleries than anywhere else in the universe. (I'm making an assumption here that other intelligent life somewhere out there doesn't have "art" and "galleries" as we know them. :)) Whether or not the above is true, let's at least make a dent in the huge number of galleries in this neighborhood by starting in the middle and heading south.
