Hi everyone! One of my biggest passions in life is art and its history. I love sharing my own artistic knowledge as well as learning new perspectives of it from fellow art lovers. I would like to try to execute a small art crawl on Saturday. There are a sprinkling of art galleries in Jersey City we can go to that are normally open from 11 am to 6 pm. Here are the galleries I found that are walking distance: Edit: I updated the third one, the previous gallery is permanently closed. For this event, we can just do 2 or 3 galleries depending on weather and mood! The recently renovated Robert F. Wagner park is perfectly situated for sweeping views of the bay, Ellis Island, and Statue of Liberty. Let's hang out in the park and draw! **We'll meet at the south entrance to the park, by Little W St and Battery Place.** Any problems on the day of the event, I can be reached at 646-831-9816. Looking forward to sketching with you! *** IMPORTANT: In case of rain, I will let people know early in the morning if it is canceled, and then reschedule for another day. *** What makes our Meetups different from other art groups and classes? There's no instruction, but we like to share our work, and chat and be inspired. Share tips and learn from people in a casual environment where all levels of artists are welcome! Don't be shy to ask anyone anything! • We sketch for a bit, usually 45 minutes or so, and then get back together and share our drawings, and then sketch again, etc. There's usually time for 3 sketches. • Please bring your own supplies - anything you like to work with - pens, pencil, watercolor, pastel, small sketchbook or large paper, iPad, whatever suits you. • We hand out nametags so everyone can meet one another! • We take photos to share on the site later. Take a bunch! • Sorry, but please leave the dogs at home; they tend to step on the artwork. I hope you are having a wonderful Summer so far. Please join us for the first art gallery MeetUp walk of this Fall on 10/03/26 at 11 AM. Chelsea is about to have dozens of openings starting on September 10th. This walk includes new solo shows by international artists, including painting, sculpture, photography, and more as available. Join us as we explore a fantastic museum-quality show of sculptures and others works by Lynda Benglis, spanning five decades of her career. Benglis broke new ground in 1968 by pouring latex on the floor of her studio, essentially blurring the lines between painting and sculpture. At Gagosian, we will explore a superb Brice Marden retrospective, including works on loan from major institutions. We will explore why Marden is viewed as a highly influential abstract artist whose work is Minimalist yet deeply humanistic. Please note $35 early bird pricing up to 2 weeks prior to the walk.

Have you ever wondered why one startup, one tweet, or one node in your product's user graph explodes while a thousand identical-looking others don't? You've already run into **[Albert-László Barabási](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert-L%C3%A1szl%C3%B3_Barab%C3%A1si)**'s work, whether you knew his name or not. He's the physicist who discovered **[scale-free networks](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scale-free_network)**: the finding that most real networks, from the web to your own social graph, run on a small number of massive hubs instead of evenly spread connections. That's the math behind **preferential attachment**, and it's why the web, social networks, and citation networks all follow the same power law. In collaboration with the **[National Arts Club](https://www.nacnyc.org/)** and its **[Art and Technology Committee](https://www.nacnyc.org/arts-and-programs/committees)**, Barabási will walk through 25 years spent turning that math into something you can look at. **[BarabásiLab's work](https://barabasi.com/)** has moved from raw data visualizations to physical, 3D-printed network sculptures, and from academic papers to museum installations. The current centerpiece is **[Constructing La Biennale](https://www.labiennale.org/en/architecture/2025/living-lab/constructing-la-biennale)**, a 30-by-8-meter data visualization wrapped around the scaffolding of the Central Pavilion at the **2025 Venice Architecture Biennale**. It maps roughly 12,000 architects and 3,800 projects across the Biennale's 45-year history, back to its first edition in 1980, as a single connected graph. Barabási has called it **the most visible work at the Biennale**, and building it, in his words, "*was a massive data science project*." If your product, your portfolio, or your own career runs on network effects, **this is a rare chance to hear from the person who wrote the math for it**. **Please read the Community Code on the Group Description page before you RSVP** **What to Expect:** * You know the feeling when you spot someone in the park, the light hits just right, and you want to capture them... and then they're gone before you finish drawing or painting. While quick poses are a great exercise, sometimes it's nice to be able to finish a piece you start. * This session solves that. We'll have a **live model,** posed and holding. We'll spend **3 hours** in the park making art and enjoying each other's company, followed by a trip to a nearby cafe/restaurant to keep the conversation going *(it's not mandatory, so it's not included in the event duration*). **Location:** Central Park. The exact spot will be shared a couple days before the event with **confirmed participants only.** **This is a paid session:** There is an upfront **fee of 25$** required to confirm your spot. All the money collected will go to the model. **Our Model:** We're joined by Maria Diaz, a beautiful and long-time professional model, posed in a dress for this session. **Agenda:** Please arrive by 10:30, as the session starts promptly at 11 am, giving us time to meet as a group and get set up. **Session time** \- 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM\.
