'GENESIS' - The Generative AI Filmmaker's Networking Event

**Welcome to 'GENESIS' - The Generative AI Filmmaking Networking Event!** ***THIS MAY BE A LIMITED EVENT - PLEASE MAKE SURE TO RSVP.*** This group is for individuals interested in exploring the intersection of generative AI technology and movie making. Whether you're a filmmaker eager to discuss movie production, a technician looking to collaborate, or simply wishing to learn more and discuss AI in film, this group is for you! Join us at the Emporium food court (located behind Grill’d Burger Restaurant in the CBD, not near Melbourne Station) to discuss AI technologies, workflows, productions, AI ethics, government responsibility and more. After 7pm, we continue the evening with Happy Hour drinks at a nearby bar and a chance to grab dinner together. Feel free to bring friends interested in AI filmmaking; it’s a great way to introduce new faces to our expanding network. Though the event begins in the afternoon, the relationships you build here can last well into the night and beyond. This event is an expansion of the very successful **Movie Mutuals Wednesday Night Networking group** which has grown remarkably, with a weekly turnout of over 50 participants, blending newcomers with regulars to create a vibrant, diverse community. Whether you’re a writer, actor, animator, or independent filmmaker, come share your experiences, discuss current projects, or chat about favourite films. Filmonik Meetup and screening #130

Filmonik Melbourne is an open filmmaking group with monthly open-screen screenings like an open-mic for films. Meet at Eclipse on Tuesday July 28th for our 130th screening and it's our proven mix of immediate, spontaneous, crafty, fun, inventive and weird short films. You should expect comedies, a bit of drama, animation maybe, there's generally one suspense/thriller, one music video, some fun trash, horror or documentary but sometimes we don't even know what will be playing. Films are generally under 8 minutes to keep things fresh and fun, followed by a quick QA with the director to hear about the process. Enjoy the networking, meet the artisans, recruit for your next short film, hang out, **DETAILS:** Admission $13+fees = $13.83. Recasting the Frontier: Gender Dynamics in the Classical & Neo-Western

Two Westerns, five decades apart, both quietly at war with the genre that made them. Nicholas Ray’s Johnny Guitar takes the iconography of the frontier — the saloon, the gunslinger, the showdown — and hands it to two women locked in a feud that the men around them can barely comprehend, let alone control. Kelly Reichardt’s Meek’s Cutoff strips the myth down further still: a wagon train lost on the Oregon Trail, a guide whose authority is pure bravado, and a silence that says more about westward expansion than any gunfight could. Join us to talk about how both films use the Western’s familiar shapes — landscape, masculinity, the threat of violence — against themselves, and what happens to a genre built on certainty when its center of gravity shifts to the women it usually pushes to the margins. We’ll look at Ray’s operatic color and framing alongside Reichardt’s austere, almost anti-dramatic style, and ask what fifty-six years and a very different idea of cinema did to the same basic questions about power, land, and who gets to tell the story. As always, no prior expertise needed — just come having watched (or half-remembering) the films.

Hello, This event will be updated with details of the actual film on the Tuesday or Wednesday prior to the event, after Cinema Nova have published their movie schedule. We typically choose a film that starts between 6:30pm and 7:30pm so that we're not all yawning in the bar afterwards. Please read on if you have any questions about tickets, where to sit and where to meet before and after the film. Stay tuned! **--=>+ Meeting Spot +<=--** Outside the clothing store Black Orange. It is inside Lygon Court next to Brunettis. Join the group at the meeting spot 10 minutes before the start time or see us in the cinema, or the bar afterwards. **--=>+ The Film +<=--** TBC on the prior Tuesday or Wednesday after Cinema Nova have published their movie schedule. **--=>+ Tickets +<=--** Everyone will need to buy their own ticket online and in advance. If you want to sit with other group members, there's a tendency for us to pick seats in the back two rows. Those who feel comfortable can catch up in Nova's bar afterward. **--=>+ Afterwards+<=--** We meet in Nova's bar after the movie. Look for us in the area to the left as you go down the steps. Share your thoughts about the film with the group over a drink of your choice. If the bar is closed we typically head across the road to the Wolf's Lair which is out the back of Jimmy Watson's.
