A full room, two parts, and conversations that kept going long after the lights came up. Now we continue. The Continuum is the next gathering in the Dasein series — built from submissions that didn't align with the first edition's specific theme. Not because they lacked strength, but because they existed beyond its frame. This is where they are seen. The theme this time opens wider. Not human. Not machine. But being itself — the condition of existing in relation to a world that is shifting faster than language can follow. Inspired by Heidegger's concept of Dasein — the awareness of presence, of being here, now, in this — the evening moves beyond categories and into the question underneath all of them. **Program Format** — 10 to 15 curated short films — Total runtime under 100 minutes — One award: Audience Award, voted live on the night — Post-screening conversation and connection **A Living Structure** Dasein now runs year-round. Every two months, a new theme. Every screening, a different entry point into the same question. Kurosawa’s RASHOMON (1950) film @5, discussion after in JAPANTOWN

It’s hard to rank the films of Akira Kurosawa, who gave us Ikiru, Seven Samurai, Throne of Blood, Hidden Fortress, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, High & Low, and Ran among his stunning 30-film career. But “Rashomon” (1950) makes most film lovers’ Kurosawa Top Ten and often Top Five - it’s the pivotal moment when multi-perspective storytelling entered mainstream cinema. Of course you might see this entirely differently…. John Muller, a petty and arrogant crook, devises a plot to rob an illegal gambling joint and when the caper becomes badly botched, he goes on the lam, frantically trying to evade the gangsters he tried to burn. While in hiding he discovers he bears a strong and strange resemblance to a noted psychiatrist and, through a murderous plan, Muller assumes his identity. A dangerous romantic interlude accompanies this scheme, and the brilliant ironic twist at the end will leave you speechless. Join us for some focused writing time. You can write poetry, your resume, do research, write a novel, screenplay, short stories, song lyrics or work projects, create apps and games, etc. All types of writing and writers at all levels of experience and expertise are welcome. But don’t worry, no one will see what you've written. This session is about getting your writing done and meeting other writers in your area. When you show up, say hello to everyone and get your writing tools ready. Once you’re all settled, take some time to chat with your fellow writers. Once everyone’s arrived, I will lead quick introductions. Writers can say what they are working on if they choose. I then set the timer for our quiet and focused writing session. Afterward, we’ll have time to chat and get to know each other. We often talk about our successes and challenges as writers. If you don’t have time to stick around, no worries! We don’t host critiques or readings. These events are a safe space for writers of all skill levels and genres to work on their craft, so no one will read or critique your writing.
