Sketching at the Mill Valley Lumber Yard

**The Mill Valley Lumber Yard is a great, chill place to sketch!** The lumber yard is closely tied to the history of Mill Valley and has now been beautifully renovated with some beautiful stores: a bakery, a restaurant, a crêperie, and thirteen independently owned shops. A few of the original buildings are still intact. The grounds include seating areas, fire pits, hidden gardens, and a creek that runs throughout the property. We'll meet at 10:00am at the chairs across from *The Good Life* shop and throw down sketches at noon. **Directions:** Take the from Hwy.101 exit (441B) toward Stinson Beach but turn right on Almonte Blvd./Miller Ave. to the Lumber Yard or take the East Blithedale Ave. exit (447) from Hwy.101 into downtown Mill Valley, then left on Miller Ave. to the Lumber Yard. Sketch what you see. ☕ Pull up a chair anytime to draw with us and talk art. 📓 3:15pm. We wrap things up with a show & tell throwdown. This is organized by the **[Cafe Art Circle](https://www.zenbay.org/cafe_art_circle)** meetup under SF Sketchers. We explore coffee and tea shops around the Bay Area, using sketching as a way to experience the atmosphere of each place and its neighborhood. Established in 2015, CoRo (short for Bay Area CoRoasters) is a collaborative roasting space for more than 20 independent local coffee companies. From the Coffee Room, large windows look directly into the roastery, giving us a chance to sketch both the cafe and some of the craft magic happening behind the scenes. **The plan for our AUGUST 30th session is by** **The Band Shell in GGP.** Great trees and architecture, lots of benches, bathrooms and food/drinks nearby. Public transport should be easy. **At 1pm** I'll meet you at the first fountain in front of the bandstand - come say hello then find a spot to draw. **At 3:30 pm** we'll meet at the fountain to share and enjoy everybody's work. **Bring layers!** Fog and wind are *always* a possibility, dress in layers. Come capture the beautiful afternoon light, Aquatic Park Cove, the historic museum, and the unique energy of the marathon as Moby-Dick is read aloud inside. It’s a rare opportunity to paint, explore, and be part of a truly memorable San Francisco tradition! **Meetup 1 — Saturday\, September 12 \| 1:00–4:00 PM** **Maritime Museum, 900 Beach Street, San Francisco** Our designated painting area is the 3rd-floor veranda overlooking Aquatic Park Cove. You may also paint from outside the building. 🎨 All mediums are welcome. Watercolor, sketching, and pastels are especially encouraged inside the museum because of its historic terrazzo floors. Artists working in other mediums are encouraged to set up outside or in less sensitive areas of the building to help protect the historic terrazzo floors. Please bring a tarp or floor covering whenever possible. Pack in, pack out, leave your area clean, and dispose of paint water outside the museum. Come enjoy the afternoon light, soak up the atmosphere, and be part of this wonderfully unusual painting experience! Rockaway is a C-shaped beach with dramatic headlands, It has a unique riparian corridor created by Calera Creek as it flows towards the ocean. Here you can often see beautiful wildflowers and many birds and butterflies. And, few blocks away at the north end of the promenade you can find additional dramatic views for painting. After lunch, you might want to check out some of the cute shops near the north end. **Parking** Plentiful and free. The north and south parking lots are a few blocks from each other. A 10 minute walk along the promenade connects them, or you can drive the short distance. **Restrooms** Located in the South parking Lot **Lunch @ 12:30** Please meet in the South Parking lot for lunch and to share our work.
