John Muller, a petty and arrogant crook, devises a plot to rob an illegal gambling joint and when the caper becomes badly botched, he goes on the lam, frantically trying to evade the gangsters he tried to burn. While in hiding he discovers he bears a strong and strange resemblance to a noted psychiatrist and, through a murderous plan, Muller assumes his identity. A dangerous romantic interlude accompanies this scheme, and the brilliant ironic twist at the end will leave you speechless. Showtime is 6 pm - we'll meet around 5.45 pm at the box office to get our seats. Please check the event comments for updates! Tickets: https://roxie.com/film/hollow-triumph-aka-the-scar/

Kurosawa’s RASHOMON (1950) film @5, discussion after in JAPANTOWN

It’s hard to rank the films of Akira Kurosawa, who gave us Ikiru, Seven Samurai, Throne of Blood, Hidden Fortress, Yojimbo, Sanjuro, High & Low, and Ran among his stunning 30-film career. But “Rashomon” (1950) makes most film lovers’ Kurosawa Top Ten and often Top Five - it’s the pivotal moment when multi-perspective storytelling entered mainstream cinema. Of course you might see this entirely differently…. To attend this event, you have to BUY a TICKET (HERE: https://roxie.com/series/nippon-vibes-japanese-cinema-weekend-at-new-people/), come to the event, and come to the discussion afterward (at a local Japantown restaurant or pub TBD). Please only RSVP if you’re planning to buy a ticket, see the film, and come discuss it afterwards! Save spots for those who are coming.

Showtime is 8 pm - we'll meet around 7.45 pm at the Roxie box office to get our seats. Please check event comments for updates. Tickets: https://roxie.com/film/the-amazing-mr-x/

Without a doubt among the most hard-edged film noir thrillers of the 50s, it continues to thrill and fascinate audiences with its uneasy mix of wanton sexuality and brutal violence. An obsessed cop will stop at nothing to bring down a vicious crime lord, even if it means sacrificing the lives of those who mean the most to him. Here, Alton delivers some of his most potent imagery, creating a pervasive atmosphere of mounting dread. Showtime is 8 pm - we'll meet at 7.45 at the Roxie box office to get seats.
