New paintings by Mark Viola explore layered identity, movement, and perception through translucent, process-driven works. Through explores translucence, movement, and the layered nature of perception. Figures emerge and recede within surfaces that reveal the process of their making, inviting viewers to look beyond the immediate image toward what lies beneath. In this way, the act of painting becomes inseparable from the subject itself. The accumulation of layers echoes the psychological and emotional weight carried by each figure, suggesting that identity is not static, but continuously constructed, obscured, and revealed over time. Rather than offering resolution, the works remain open—holding space for ambiguity, motion, and multiple readings. Through ultimately asks not only what we see, but how we see, and what might be uncovered when we choose to look beyond the surface. Kensington Market's Pedestrian Sundays

Hey all, Kensington Market's Pedestrian Sundays are back and it's a great opp for some great photos and exploration of the neighbourhood. If you are unfamiliar, the streets are closed off for people so it's quite an electric atmosphere, This is a free event and open to everyone, even if you just want to meet people. Hi everyone! We're doing an afternoon sketching hangout at the MaRS Building food court tables- Enter MaRS from Collage Street where the statue of two men are sitting by the glass doors. Turn left and head down the escalator. ROM Walks: Yorkville

There are many excellent **ROM Walks**--and this group attends ONE of them each year. ***FREE***--just show up at meeting spot. (ROM brings a number of excellent tour docents out for this) This charming walk takes us just a stone’s throw from the Museum into Yorkville, a market-tollgate village that originated in the early 1830s on what was then the outskirts of Toronto. Though fully absorbed into the city over time, Yorkville has retained a distinct character, the result of navigating decades of change while maintaining its unique identity. https://www.rom.on.ca/whats-on/events/romwalks-free-romwalk-yorkville-1 Our walk starts at the Yorkville Library, and continues to local landmarks such as the Firehall, the Heliconian Club, and Yorkville Park, before concluding at the Royal Ontario Museum. Along our route, we’ll see the evidence of Yorkville’s fascinating transformations—from its Victorian beginnings to the vibrant hippie scene of the 1960s, and on to the upscale residential and retail neighbourhood it is today. And remember, parting with a coin or two in Yorkville is not a new phenomenon. This is a lovely WALK--perhaps stopping at 20 locations throughout the community! Learn how to create amazing cinematic images in small spaces. This is a great chance to shoot in a historic space with an amazing model and some great Elinchrom equipment. **Location: Scadding Cabin, Exhibition Place**Our Photography Lighting Workshop takes place at the historic **Scadding Cabin** — Toronto’s oldest surviving house. Built in 1794 by John Scadding, an immigrant from Devonshire, the log cabin originally stood on the east side of the Don River. It served as his home until 1796, after which it was used as a farm building for decades. In 1879, to celebrate the very first Toronto Industrial Exhibition (now the CNE), the cabin was dismantled, moved, and rebuilt by the York Pioneers at its current site in Exhibition Place. Steeped in over two centuries of history, the cabin offers a rustic, atmospheric backdrop perfect for exploring lighting techniques in photography. We will have a wonderful model onsite to pose and act like a Pioneer at home in the evening, this is a chance to learn some great small space lighting and posing techniques. Guided Walking Tour of Yorkville

On **Wednesday, July 22nd**, **join a Guided Walking Tour of Yorkville provided by the Royal Ontario Museum.** Evolving from an 1800’s tollgate village at the edge of Toronto to an upscale commercial destination, see how this iconic neighbourhood has maintained its character despite being engulfed by the city. These Tours are guided by docents, and run rain or shine.
