Let’s do some coding together at a cafe! No more working alone in the weekend. Here, we write code together. And I mean together together. Not occupying-the-same-space-but-separate together. Here’s how it works: Jennifer brings her mobile app project, tells everyone that it is like Pinterest for recipes and she’d like to work on the nav bar. Paul and Chloe think Jennifer's project is fascinating, and they join the group. They gather around Jennifer’s laptop and work on the nav bar for 2 hours. Jennifer is the one typing out the code while Paul and Chloe research, brainstorm, and offer suggestions. If you’re feeling stuck on your own project or need a motivation boost, bring it to mob programming! Want to learn by watching how others code and solve problems? Join someone else’s project at this event! Oh and we love your half-done projects that you are a bit embarrassed to share. **Glow Night at DIYBio.to: Fluorescent Drinks Under Black Light!** This Thursday Oct. 8,\*, DIYBio.to invites you to [Hacklab.to](https://hacklab.to/visit-us/) to help engineer the most luminous libations for an upcoming Halloween party. Think of it as a tasting lab rather than a bar night: we're here to experiment, measure, and refine, not to imbibe in earnest. **On the menu:** * **Tonic water and tonic ice cubes**, whose quinine glows electric blue under UV * **Chlorophyll-infused vodka**, a leafy green drink that fluoresces blood-red * **Riboflavin and turmeric concoctions**, glowing chartreuse and gold * Mocktail versions for everyone. The spirited versions are 19+. Then we'll put the drinks to the test. Samples go into our real-time PCR machine, repurposed as a plate reader, to measure exactly how brightly each one glows across different wavelengths. Why does tonic dazzle under a black light but barely register on some detectors? What happens when you add a pinch of salt? Exact location and meeting spot will be sent to participants. Spend a day in Algonquin Park at the most magical time of year — when the maples turn brilliant shades of red, orange, and gold. This 1/2 day photo workshop is all about slowing down and learning how to capture the beauty of fall in a way that feels true to your style. This is a hands-on intensive one-on-one workshop where I’ll share practical tips on composition, working with natural light, and getting the most out of your gear — whether you’re shooting with a DSLR, mirrorless, or even just your phone. The pace is relaxed, with plenty of time to ask questions, try new techniques, and of course, make some great photos. By the end of the day, you’ll head home with fresh inspiration, new skills, and a collection of images that capture the spirit of Algonquin in autumn. **What’s included:** * Instruction on composition, exposure, and working with natural light * Individual feedback tailored to your goals * Access to some of the park’s best locations for fall colours * limited to 6 participants **What to bring:** * Your camera and favourite lenses * Tripod. 🐾 Give Back: TNR Cat Rescue Volunteer Day

Please read the details before RSVPing. 🐾 Time to give back, guys We’ve partnered with a non-profit animal rescue group to support a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) campaign in Scarborough, near 75 Birchmount Ave. We’re looking for volunteers to help with 1. 🪤 Setting up traps at designated locations 2. 🚗 Transporting cats to/from the clinic 3. 🐱 Feeding cats at designated locations Some activities require access to your own vehicle, while others simply require your time and willingness to help. Do you like s’mores? Maybe you’ve never had a s’mores. Either way this is the place to be for dollar s’mores. But you’ve got to roast the marshmallows over an open fire yourself which is the best part. Not mention you’ll be meeting other people in a social environment. $1 (cash only please) gets you two crackers, a piece of milk chocolate and a marshmallow on a skewer. For those of you who have never made your own or aren’t that skilled I will teach you how. And yes you can have more than one!
