Ladies Evening walk around Cheam

We’ll meet outside Kent House, just by Cheam Station and head off at 6.30pm for a relaxed evening walk around Cheam, aiming to walk for at least an hour. We’ll follow a circular route, so we’ll always finish back at Cheam Station where we started. The pace will be comfortable and conversational — the idea is to get some fresh air and gentle exercise while having a proper chat and getting to know each other along the way. Please bring some water and wear a comfortable pair of trainers or walking shoes. Come as you are, enjoy the walk and the company, and hopefully make a few new local connections along the way.

WRITE CLUB: one hour of silent writing (or reading) in the company of others

The first rule of WRITE CLUB is that you do not talk ***during*** WRITE CLUB. This very simple meetup is based on the premise that public and peer accountability enables more productive writing than sitting at home and getting distracted by the fridge. We will write/read for an hour in silence. So we're tempting fate and doing it again in October. This is a fair-weather event. If it rains, we will cancel the retreat and hang out at the Southbank instead. This time, we have an even bigger line up of activities, so please join us in praying for dry weather! **How does a outdoor day retreat connect to TEiP (THOUGHT EXPERIMENTS IN PUBLIC)?** TEiP has become a thriving community because our events create opportunities for people to get straight into meaningful, imaginative, creative conversations. The Day Retreats are opportunities to take that imagination and creativity and sense of community to the next level. They are an opportunity for people to share and learn from one another in the same openminded, relaxed spirit as TEiP. Shooting for the Stars - with Jeremy Phillips FRAS

**Night Sky Photography Talk – This free in person event is aimed at anyone who is interested in taking wonderful pictures of the night sky.** In this presentation Jeremy will show images of space he has taken from his back garden in Streatham Hill and across the world. Take a journey through the Cosmos featuring the moon, nebulas, supernovas and distant galaxies 30 million light years away. The mix will also include photographs combining epic landscapes with the Milky Way. Accompanied on his photography missions by astro-dog Cosmo, Jeremy is a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and will be happy to answer questions about how you can take your own images of space, even on the smallest budget. Jeremy is interested in astrophotography as an art form that intersects with science and technology. His images are created purely using light gathered through his lenses. Nothing else is added. When he was 10 years old his father bought him a small refractor telescope. Staying up well past his bedtime he looked through the eyepiece and was blown away by the sight of Jupiter with its giant storm cloud and moons. Then he pointed his scope towards Saturn and could actually see its magnificent rings. He was hooked. Rustic Rocks & Rails (14 miles)

Often one is asked: "*What is your favourite place?*" One place leaving a most indelible mark is the sandstone outcrops of the Weald. So many happy fulfilling days and memories. These began in the Lower Cretaceous as sands accumulating in the shallow inland Wealden sea. The sands hardened over epochs into rocks. which may now be found hiding in the fields and forests all round the spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells. Passing among the woods with their outcrops is the Spa Valley Railway, whose steam trains add colour & sound, and a sense of nostalgia to the landscape. And this weekend the railway holds its annual Ale and Cider Festival, with food stalls, and free live music at its stations, as well as the heritage trains chugging to and fro along the line all day. A Spa Valley walk of autumn colours, unique rock formations, and stations visited along the line to sample the festivities.
