Games night – Second Serve
Fri, Jun 5, 6:00 PMOnce a month, we slow things down. No courts. No rushing. Just good food, easy conversation, and a social that actually feels… social. This is the **Second Serve games night** — a more relaxed, sit-down version of the group. 📍 **Venue (Croydon / easy access)** We rotate between: * Cosy restaurants with bookable tables * Private/semi-private dining spaces * Quiet venues where we can actually hear each other (Final location shared after approval) 🕒 **Format (Monthly Saturday)** * **6:30 – 7:15pm** → Arrivals + dinner orders * **7:15 – 8:15pm** → Dinner & natural conversation * **8:15 – 9:45pm** → Games + guided social * Wrap up on time — no dragging the night out 🎲 **The Twist (What makes this different)** This isn’t just “dinner and hope for the best.” We structure it lightly so it never gets awkward: * Small tables (4–6 people max) * Subtle **table rotations** (optional, not forced) * Simple games that spark conversation, not competition 💬 **Conversation Style** No cringe icebreakers. We use light prompts that are easy to answer and easy to build on. 👥 **Who this is for** * People who don’t want loud, chaotic nights * People who actually want to talk and connect * People who prefer structure over randomness ✅ **Approval & Attendance** * RSVP approval required * Limited seats (kept intentionally small) * Priority goes to consistent attendees 👉 If you RSVP, we expect you there (No-shows affect future approvals) **The vibe** A proper social. Not loud. Not forced. Not endless. Just a good evening, done right. *Pictures and Videos may be taken for marketing purposes.* *All attendees consent to the use of their pictures by The* Second Serve Social 🎾

Goodge Street Picture Hunt
Mon, Jun 1, 12:30 PM**Picture Hunt Meetup:** **Goodge St station. At the exit.** Picture Hunt length: 270 metres. Quiz Finish: Magnus Pyke or local pub. "Goodge Street Tube Station is a historic underground station located in the heart of London. Originally opened in 1906, it was one of the first stations to be built on the Central Line of the London Underground. Over the years, Goodge Street has played an important role in the development of the city and has become a landmark destination for tourists and locals alike. The station itself underwent a major renovation in the 1920s, which saw the addition of new escalators and a redesigned platform layout. It was also during this time that the station began to gain popularity as a meeting place for local poets, writers, and artists. Many of these individuals would gather in the station’s coffee shop to discuss their work and collaborate on new projects." Picture Hunts are a great new way to get up to speed with slices of London history while sleuthing around the area. Everyone is presented with twenty partial photos of objects around an area. Your team mission is to find them. Some well known, some well unknown! This makes Picture Hunts more interesting and challenging, bringing out the best of your teams detecting skills. You will also have a map of the area. It will be sub-divided into four sections, P, Q, R, S. Each photo will come from one of these. Four players max per team, but the lower number teams get a point per player start from the biggest team. For example, four teams of one, two, three and four. Four player team, no advantage, (the biggest and theoretically the more knowledge between them, except it doesn't always work like that). Three player team, one point start. Two player team, two point start. One player team, three point start. Scores are always close and around the 15-20 points mark. How many players do you want in your team? There's a dilemma! The clipboard holder enters one of the letters to note its area location. Dead simple, right? 90 minutes to do the hunt. We have the usual prizes of chocolate, including some great new varieties. There is also an equal prize for the funniest team name judged by Sue, my glamorous assistant. Names win prizes too! So there’s everything to play for. We mark up at the quiz finish point. Tbc. Hunts are good fun and the proven experience so far is that members get to know each other better after working in teams as you all have to communicate. Great icebreakers. This is what Meetup is all about. Come and join us. **There is a £7 cash/card charge for this event. Pay on the day.** Contact number on the day is 07422334411 if your transport is delayed. **If you can’t make it, please cancel using the “Edit RSVP” button. Your consideration is greatly appreciated.** .

Brain Worms 119 / The Inheritors by William Golding
Tue, Jun 16, 6:00 PMWhen the spring came the people - what was left of them - moved back by the old paths from the sea. But this year strange things were happening, terrifying things that had never happened before. Inexplicable sounds and smells; new, unimaginable creatures half glimpsed through the leaves. What the people didn't, and perhaps never would, know, was that the day of their people was already over. From the author of *Lord of the Flies*, *The Inheritors* is a startling recreation of the lost world of the Neanderthals, and a frightening vision of the beginning of a new age. Available from all good libraries and book shops. You don't have to have read it to join us - but it'll probably help. We will be meeting in The Ludski Bar in the Rio Cinema. [https://www.riocinema.org.uk/your-visit/](https://www.riocinema.org.uk/your-visit/) You are welcome to bring outside food in with you but please buy your drinks from inside the cinema. Thank you.
