They are consistently well attended. Must prepay to attend.)* Everyone's favorite Haunted Hunt is back! It's a unique, enjoyable way to socialize, learn and explore outdoors! Clues, Spells, and Curses! Join dozens as they set out onto the streets of the Financial District; the site of graveyards, hauntings and some of the grizzliest deeds ever done! It will be a fun way to explore and socialize. We'll set you up on teams and give you everything you need to know to help find the clues. **How does it work?** If you come alone we will set you up on a team (or you can play with a team) and we'll give you everything you need to know to help find the clues. Each team will have 90 minutes to find as many of the clues we give you. When finished we will return to a set location for socializing. Prizes are awarded to those finding the most clues. **What are we looking for?** Lower Manhattan in the early 1600's till now has been the site of hangings, hauntings, massacres, explosions, and other not so nice and creepy things. You will be scouring Bowling Green to City Hall, visiting (supposedly haunted places), searching for history-markers and research things that happened. **FAQs:** How do I find group? We will meet in front of the Fraunces Tavern. **Description:** We all like to believe that we look at the evidence and then form our opinions. But very often, our minds work in the opposite direction: we form a belief and then become remarkably good at finding evidence that supports it. Join the **Free Thinker Institute** for an interactive discussion about the psychology of **confirmation bias**—what it is, why virtually everyone experiences it, how it can distort our judgment and decision-making, and, most importantly, what we can do to overcome it. We'll explore why intelligent, well-intentioned people can look at the same information and reach completely different conclusions, why being smart doesn't necessarily protect us from our own biases, and practical techniques we can use to become more open-minded, intellectually honest, and accurate thinkers. If time permits, we'll also explore some of the many ways people can be persuaded to believe things that aren't true—from repetition and emotional appeals to social pressure, misleading statistics, selective evidence, and other techniques. The goal isn't to tell anyone **what to think**. It's to get better at **how we think**—and to become more resilient when someone, intentionally or unintentionally, tries to convince us of something that isn't true. A Saturday afternoon of trivia at this location. This Whole Foods is at 66 Broadway at Wall Street in lower Manhattan. The 4 and 5 trains stop right there at the Wall Street station. The R and 1 trains stop nearby at Rector Street. The seating area is downstairs. Walk straight ahead after getting off the escalator. A large food and beverage selection. SMC Trail Work Volunteer Day

**TRAIL WORK will continue rerouting the Hogenauer Trail** (we are making progress!) up the slope and away from recently installed property fences. **Meet At:** Dog Park/ Wildflower Preserve, 11 Bear Lane, Maplewood. From there, we will walk to Crater View on Crest drive and then to the Hogenauer trail work site. (Note: While we normally meet the first Sudnay of each month, this volunteer day was shifted after the Labor Day weekend.) Trail work is physically challenging but very satisfying as we use hand tools to build and repair trails. Participants must be 15+ years. Those younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants **should wear long pants** due to [ticks](https://www.somocon.org/?page_id=193928&fb) and thron bushes and sturdy shoes, and bring gloves (though backup gloves will be available). Tools, water, and a snack will be provided. (Registration is not required though if you sign up on Meetup, it helps us know how many tools to bring.) Only heavy, steady rain cancels.
