Hosted in our NYC studios, the session focuses on the most important skill a mixing engineer can have: learning to hear a mix critically. You'll sit at industry-standard gear, work through a focused exercise with a professional engineer, and walk out with a clear sense of what mixing is, what it asks of you, and what it takes to get good at it. This is built to give you an honest read on whether mixing is a craft you want to pursue further. No experience or prerequisites required. An Intro to Soldering
Wed, Jun 3, 11:00 PMWelcome to our soldering basics class! This class is for beginners and designed to teach you a few important fundamentals on soldering, an essential skill for anyone interested in electronics or DIY projects. We’ll go over solder types, soldering temperatures, and basic through hole component soldering. You’ll learn techniques and tips on how to properly flow solder into a joint, and how to inspect it to ensure you have a good connection. All of this will be taught on a custom circuit board designed for practicing a variety of different circumstances and techniques, which is yours to take home after the class. No experience is necessary, and all equipment and tools will be provided for you to use during the class. The class will run around 1.5-2 hours.

Summer Soft Launch: June West Side Knitting Collective Meetup
Sat, Jun 6, 6:00 PMJoin the West Side Knitting Collective as we soft launch Summer with a **knitting picnic in Central Park** on **Saturday, June 6th** **at 2pm.** We are taking our WIPs outdoors for an afternoon of knitting, sunshine (hopefully), snacks, and good conversation. Our group will be meeting at **Variety Coffee Roasters on the UWS and then walking over to the park together**. **Bring a blanket, your current project and anything you’d like to snack or sip on** while we settle into one of the park’s best people-watching spots to knit the afternoon away. In the off chance that rain is in the forecast, we’ll move to a nearby indoor backup location.

Protecting Your Ideas: IP for Makers, Builders & Founders
Mon, Jun 1, 10:30 PMJoin us at Fat Cat Fab Lab for a practical presentation on intellectual property and patent law tailored for makers, builders, hardware/software developers, and early-stage founders. Led by New York patent attorney and inventor Stefan Knirr, this session will explore the fundamentals of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets through the lens of real-world product development and commercialization. Topics will include: • What patents do — and do not — protect • Provisional vs. non-provisional patent strategies • Public disclosure risks and timing • Protecting prototypes, code, CAD files, branding, and creative assets • Common IP mistakes early-stage builders make • Practical considerations around cost, filing strategy, and commercialization The session is designed to be practical, accessible, and directly relevant to creators developing products, launching startups, collaborating with others, or preparing to bring ideas to market. 6:30–6:45 → Arrival / networking 6:45–7:30 → Main presentation 7:30–8:00 → Audience Q&A + project-specific questions Free and open to the community. Lab Night - Musician's Collective
Mon, Jun 1, 10:30 PM[NOTE - You may join any session, whatever day they take place - there is no formal grouping. If it's your first time, please reach out via DM here to confirm, and share what instrument, etc.] Open to acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, keyboards and vocalists. In this guided jam, we will play a large variety of songs from beginner to intermediate level at a location in Manhattan, midtown west neighborhood (near Port Authority). You can usually borrow an instrument, please confirm availability ahead. Rather than music lessons (and those are also available), what we supply is a playground for "talented amateurs" from beginner to intermediate level a chance to play with other people. We don't require a week-in, week-out commitment, but sign-up is first-come, first-served. We play most popular music styles (pop, rock, country, jazz, soul, folk, etc) and we'll try just about anything. As a group, we will work on specific songs we're focusing on, as well as try new things off the cuff. Bring in whatever you want! We will build week over week on certain songs. The leader is happy to share material to help participants advance their abilities. The location is at 43rd St & 9th Av, Manhattan, at 400 W. 43rd St, Apt 8S. 6:30-8:30 pm. $20 for an hour, and $30 for the whole night. Intro rate if you're a first timer: $5 off (so $15 or $25).
