White Tooth to St Albans (16 miles)
Sat, Jul 18, 9:15 AM"*They had a hard fight, though, before they gained the victory: a furious wind and driving snow, added to the natural difficulties, nearly turned the scale against them."* Edward Whymper On the anniversary of the 1862 first ascent of the mighty Dent Blanche, I shall be walking to St Albans to tip my hat to one of the first ascensionists, Woolmore Wigram. Leaving Elstree & Borehamwood station in Zone 6, the walk will visit a pleasant lunch stop halt the *Green Dragon* reminiscent to those familiar with Mihai's local walk. St Albans needs no introduction. Cathedral, Roman remains, many historic buildings. Entering the city, St Stephen's was founded Abbot Ulsinus in AD 948, and of the original a small window has been dated to around AD 950. TRAVEL: Walk starts 10.15 AM from ELSTREE & BOREHAMWOOD station (Zone 6). Walk ends at ST ALBANS The off peak single back from ST ALBANS CITY to Elstree is £4.30 with a Groupsave or Network card. In the morning the 09.48 from St Pancras arrives at Elstree 10.12. *How to join?* * The walk is entirely free of charge; * You only arrange for your own travel and pub expenses; * Understand our terms and conditions below (the "IMPORTANT" part); * Understand how to stay safe outdoors, as you will be responsible for yourself.
