We are taking on the beautiful Arundel river circular in partnership with Craghoppers. They will be providing us with goodies for the day to give out. This route has beautiful scenery as well as animals and really helps us connect with nature. This area of the UK has an incredible castle and is a magical hike. Come alone or with a group of friends, everyone is welcome. **WHAT TO EXPECT - Dramatic hill-top views, secluded valleys and woodland** Distance: **25km (approx 15 miles)** Ascent: c. **570m** Estimated Duration (approx): **6 hours walking** (4km/hr) Difficulty: Moderate to energetic Group size: 20 hikers **HIGHLIGHT** * An undulating hike through the little known western reaches of the South Downs. * Lovely quaint pub for a stop at lunchtime * Stunning 360-degree panoramic views on top of National Trust's Harting Down * Significant views out to the Solent and the Isle of Wight * Deer parks in the later part of the walk * Some beautiful quintessentially English countryside at its best **DESCRIPTION** We'll be walking in part on the South Downs Way, as well as lesser known paths steeped in history. Our day will start in Petersfield - an ancient market town founded in the early 12th century which became a horse coaching centre on the main London to Portsmouth route. We'll then head to Buriton, a lovely historic village just south of Peterfield. From there we will start heading up onto the South Downs Way and then down to South Harting, which sits at the foot of the beautiful South Downs. It is home to one of the major landmarks in the Rother Valley - St Mary and Gabriel Church. This will be our lunch stop at a quaint old pub. We'll be walking off our lunch with a steep climb up onto Harting Down - a stunning 360-degree viewpoint where the higher ground of West Harting Down provides significant views out to the Solent and the Isle of Wight should we have fine weather. We then circle back to Petersfield over fields and along deer park enclosures, with no other hikers in sight. And of course, a well earned drink in a pub in Petersfield! *ps. Departing London early on Saturday morning, we'll head to **Snowdon – the highest mountain in Wales**, at an elevation of 1085 metres above sea level. Starting from **Pen-y-Pass mountain pass**, we'll climb Snowdon via the **Pyg Track**, which offers one of the most popular and scenic routes to the summit. On our way, we'll enjoy exceptional views of the beautiful **glacial lakes of Llyn Llydaw and Glaslyn**, dramatic cliffs and the surrounding peaks of the Snowdon Massif mountain range. The descent is via the **Miners' Track**. It's so called as it was originally built to serve the Britannia Copper Mine on the slopes of Snowdon. Steeped in history and folklore, these ancient woods were said to be haunted by Lady Hoby and inspired Kenneth Grahame’s The Wind in the Willows. Rich in flora and wildlife, they provide a beautiful opening to our walk. Climbing to **Winter Hill**, we enjoy sweeping views across the Thames Valley before descending to the river. The path then leads us through meadows and marshland, past the ancient burial mounds of **Cock Marsh**, before arriving in the historic heart of Cookham village, famously described by Stanley Spencer as “a village in heaven.” Here we pause for lunch, with time to explore the charming streets, Spencer’s gallery, and Holy Trinity Church where the artist is commemorated, as well as a visit to a traditional pub. After lunch, we rejoin the **Thames Path**, widely regarded as one of the most photogenic stretches of the river. The route meanders alongside the water, skirting the edge of the grand **Cliveden Estate**, once a ducal residence and later the setting of the notorious 1960s Profumo Affair. Our hike continues along the river past **Boulters Lock**, a lively boating hub once popular with Victorian high society, before reaching **Maidenhead**. Through the ages, it has been home to Iron Age farmers, Romans, royalty and archbishops. From here our route leads into the tranquil woods and grasslands of the Kentish countryside, reaching **Shoreham** before following the **Darent Valley Path** into the heart of the valley. The trail takes us into the beautiful **Lullingstone Country Park**, internationally important for its collection of ancient trees. Beech, ash, oak, sweet chestnut and hornbeam all thrive here, with some specimens thought to be over 800 years old. Emerging from the woodland, we arrive at **Lullingstone Castle**, set beside its peaceful lake, before continuing to the site of **Lullingstone Roman Villa** — a rare survival of a Roman estate house first built around 100 AD. From here we continue through rolling Kent fields, rewarded with views of the impressive **Eynsford Rail Viaduct**, its nine red-brick arches towering 22 metres above the valley floor. Our hike concludes in the charming village of **Eynsford**, where we explore the evocative ruins of **Eynsford Castle**, a Norman stronghold built in 1088.
