Quiet lanes and green byways lead us to the quaint village of Ditchling, before the trail steepens toward **Ditchling Beacon** — one of the South East’s loftiest points. From here, the panorama opens wide: the Weald to the north and the English Channel growing larger to the south. From the high ground we thread through rolling downs and woodland pockets, turning toward **Stanmer Park**. We pass Stanmer House and the historic village, then continue via the University of Sussex at Falmer. Cresting the ridgeline by **Brighton Racecourse** and Whitehawk Hill, we traverse species-rich grassland with sweeping views over the city and sea. Our finale is a descent into **Brighton**, finishing on the lively seafront. We’ll have around 50–70 minutes to explore: wander the **Lanes** with live buskers, dip a toe in the sea, try the zip wire, or round things off with classic **fish and chips** on the beach. **TOUGHNESS WARNING** \- this is a tough and hilly hike and is also long\. You need to be an experienced and fit hiker\. It is not for beginners or anyone who has only done intermediate hikes\. To be fair to those attending, if you are unable to keep up with the group or finish the hike, you will need to leave the hike and get a taxi at your own expense. Our pace will average 4 to 4.2kmph. At over 500m ascent, it is 2/3 of the ascent of Mount Snowdon from Pen Y Pass - the most popular start point. NEW HIKE: Autumnal colours Part 1: Is this Surrey or Canada?

There is a magical place not too far from good old London where the colours of the trees seem straight out of a fairy tale, it will allow us to take the most gorgeous pictures both mental and physical, a trip that I could make many times and never get tired of. The hike will take us through stunning woodlands, villages and in places straight out of a book from the Grimm brothers Red, yellow, green, orange, all these colours will charm us. Take your lover, meet one or just enjoy the nature with our awesome hikers, whatever the reason, this is a pretty place that I will teach you to love. This hike will have a couple of hills and is a bit longer than my usual ones and will feature tons of varied landscapes and views to remember. This is a remodeling of one of my first ever hikes in the UK. If the public right of way is still open, we might even have a peak for free at the Winkworth A rboretum (The owner has been trying to close the public right of way for many years and as I haven't been in4 years, I cannot promise access, but nevertheless, we will have a try. The rest of the hike though is an absolute stunner, you will see so many different landscapes and types of woodlands that you can only fall in love with it! As always, you will have the opportunity to grab some food in a nice restaurant in Godalming after the trip. PLEASE HAVE WATERPROOF SHOES WITH A GOOD GRIP, YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO DO THIS HIKE WITH TRAINERS AS IT WILL GET REALLY MUDDY. Ideal if you’re new to group hiking or just fancy a relaxed Saturday outdoors. **The route** From Godalming station we follow the river north through countryside towards Shalford, passing traditional locks along the way. In Guildford we head up towards the castle and its gardens, finishing in Guildford town centre with an optional pub stop. Over the centuries it has attracted many famous residents, including **Lewis Carroll, Alan Turing, Terry Jones, Yvonne Arnaud** and supermodel **Jodie Kidd**. The artist **William Turner** painted the nearby ruins of St Catherine’s Chapel in 1807–08, works that now hang in the Tate Gallery. We start by following the **River Wey**, a peaceful canal lined with boathouses and willow trees, leading us to the evocative ruins of **St Catherine’s Chapel**, a 14th-century site perched above the river. From here, our trail rises into the **Bluebell Woods** before joining the ancient **North Downs Way**, a ridge path that rewards us with sweeping views across Surrey and, on a clear day, as far as the sea. At the top of the ridge we reach the remote and atmospheric **St Martha’s Church**, built in the 12th century and still standing alone on the hilltop. The views here are among the finest in the region, stretching across seven counties and down to the distant South Downs. From the ridge, we descend towards **Chilworth**, once home to an extensive **gunpowder factory** built by the East India Company in 1626. Though production ended in 1920, the enchanting **27-acre site** is now a mix of woodland and evocative ruins, including relics, tramways and industrial buildings from its nearly 400-year history. Stretching 95 miles between Old Harry Rocks and Orcombe Point, the Jurassic Coast – England’s first Natural UNESCO World Heritage Site – is the most geologically diverse coastline in the world. The exposed cliff sections allow us to look back across 185 million years; dinosaur remains have been found here, and it’s a fossil-hunter’s paradise. On this magnificent coastal hike, we’ll visit the iconic limestone arch of Durdle Door and the famous scallop-shaped Lulworth Cove, with its white pebble beach and crystal-clear waters. Along the way, we’ll pass many lovely bays and beaches and enjoy excellent views of the Isle of Portland, which hosted the sailing events of the 2012 Olympics. Most of the route follows the clifftop trail, with stunning panoramic views of sweeping bays, folded cliffs and the sea. There will be a few steep ascents and descents, but your efforts will be well rewarded by the jaw-dropping beauty all around you! From here, we set out toward **Chichester Harbour**, the largest natural estuary in South East England and a protected wildlife sanctuary. The harbour’s expansive tidal waters and saltmarshes are alive with birdlife, making it one of the UK’s richest coastal habitats. We follow a scenic trail past the **Bosham Channel**, a picturesque stretch of water that has inspired painters, poets, and writers for centuries. Soon we reach the **Chichester Channel**, once used as a wartime shipping passage and immortalised in a painting by **J.M.W. Turner**. Here we cross by the traditional ferry, a unique highlight of the day and a chance to admire the waterway up close. Arriving in the old village of **West Itchenor**, our route continues to the bustling **Chichester Marina**, home to more than 1,000 boats and one of the South Coast’s most vibrant harbours.
