11kms Coogee to Malabar Headland Hike!!! Microbrew & Food Truck Finish!
Sat, Jul 25, 11:30 PM**Beach to Beach to National Park Headland to Microwbrew & Food Truck?!?! Absolutely. Add whales!!!** Edit: Wow this hike is popular (and filled up a week early), so I'm adding a second one. As many of you know my shortcoming is "Not saying no" (to many things), so please **[CHECK OUT THE SAME HIKE IN TWO WEEKS TIME HERE](https://www.meetup.com/hikewalktothebar/events/315610037/)**. Of course the Marrickville & Freshwater microwbrews are well known, but there are also a few down in Botany that we've not explored together. Let’s check it out for a cracker of a Sunday session. **THE HIKE. 11kms.** **Coogee Beach…** we all know it. It’s a beauty. We'll meet just by Coogee Pavilion at that huge chair in the grass - it's actually a sculpture called "The Impressionists' Seat"... hiking along beautiful Coogee Beach. South Coogee turns a bit more tranquil with gorgeous cliff views and crazy-beautiful homes. We’ll twist and turn to **Maroubra Rocks and Beach**… looooovely spots. The rockpool at Maroubra is one of the prettiest on the coast. To **Malabar Headland** we goooooooooo! I still haven't done it, and it looks a treat (it's only open the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month). Around to **Malabar Beach** then a 1km neighbourhood walk to the bus, and Beer Fontaine is close (if you have to leave after the hike, that’s understandable – it’s Sunday after all). **Beer Fontaine** is a lovely little spot, and they always have a food truck out front. Who doesn’t love a beer and food truck meal post-hike! A perfect Sunday Session. The 309 bus is close by and drops at Redfern. See you soon! MJ **THE OTHER STUFF** a) **Be on time.** If you’re late? Sat, Jul 25, 12:00 AM⚠️ FOR YOUR SAFETY & ENJOYMENT, PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION BELOW FULLY BEFORE YOU CLICK ‘Attend’! 📝 THIS IS ONCE A YEAR EVENT FROM THIS GROUP, SO DON’T MISS OUT! ******************************************** 🗓 DATE: Saturday, 25 July 2026. ⏰ MEETING TIME: 10am. 🚊 MEETING POINT: for those travelling by train - Newcastle Interchange Station, at the entry/exit. 🚆7.20am - train from Central station departs from Platform 8 (CCN Newcastle Interchange via Strathfield). 🚆 9.53am - arrives at Newcastle Interchange (last station). 🚌 10.17am - upon arrival at Newcastle Interchange, we will immediately walk across the road to catch a local bus (Opal card) to Merewether Surf Life Saving Club to start our exciting walk. 🚗 10.40am - those travelling by car, you can meet the group at: https://www.merewetherslsc.com.au/ 🅿️ Please check for parking limits near Merewether Surf Life Saving Club. 🚗 All day parking may be available at nearby residential area or playground. 🚶10.45am - we will start our adventure immediately from Merewether Surf Life Saving Club with loads of photo stops along Merewether Beach and Ocean Baths, Glenrock Lagoon, Burwood Beach, Dudley Beach and parts of the Great North Walk. 🥪 After BYO lunch, we will continue our adventure stopping at few awesome lookouts, rainforest walks on the way back to the starting point at Merewether Surf Life Saving Club. 🚌 Those travelling by train, you may catch a bus from Merewether Surf Life Saving Club to Newcastle Interchange for your return journey back to Sydney. 📸 WHAT TO EXPECT: 🚶♂️Located between Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, Glenrock State Conservation Area offers an astounding array of recreational opportunities. The reserve is a thriving sanctuary for local wildlife and unique flora. 🦎 Keep an eye out for echidnas snuffling through the leaf litter or lace monitors basking on warm logs. 🦅 The area is also home to a significant population of powerful owls and glossy black cockatoos. 🥾 DISTANCE: 16km return circuit loop. 🥾 GRADE: Easy/mostly Moderate on a steady pace, not slow pace! 💪🏽 Reasonable fitness recommended due to uneven rocky surfaces, ups and down hills, creek crossings, rock scramblings, walking on sandy beaches and a bit of bush bashing at few overgrown sections. 💪🏽 Tracks expected to be wet, muddy and slippery at few sections. 🏃♂️Limited get out points along the trails. ⚠️ IMPORTANT INFORMATION ⚠️ 📝 TERMS & DISCLAIMER: Attending this event is voluntarily at your own risk. We’re adding **Chinaman’s Beach** \- one of the sleeper Sydney beaches\, and perhaps it’s the best\. Let’s do it all\, and finish at stunning **Balmoral Beach**. You have to see it with your own eyes. **Manly Wharf to Spit Bridge.** **East Manly Cove Beach.** **West Manly Cove Beach, Manly Pavilion, Forty Baskets Beach, Reef Beach** which spills into a diverse bush walk in **Sydney Harbour** **National Park**. Harbour views. Secluded Beaches. Wildlife. Mansions on the water to **Clontarf and Spit Bridge**. Crossing Spit Bridge we’ll enjoy a solid rest at **Chinaman’s Beach** – you’re in for a real treat. 🌊 Coastal Epic: The 'Bloody Long Walk' ~20KM Leg 2 - Watson Bay - N Shore
Sat, Jul 25, 11:30 PMJoin us for the second leg of **coastal challenge over Eastern Beaches** \- from Watson Bay to North Shore as we take on our unofficial attempt of the scenic 'Bloody Long Walk' \(Sydney East route\)\. Originally hosted by the Mito Foundation each November\, we are tackling this spectacular coastal track our own way\. This is a demanding\, long\-distance trek requiring high fitness and endurance\, but the world\-class ocean views are worth every step\. The terrain features a diverse mix of coastal boardwalks, beach walking (sand), paved streets, stairs, and multiple headland ascents. * **Start:** 9:30 AM sharp at Watson Bay wharf exit - nearby Doyles on the Wharf. Please arrive a few minutes early. **Finish:** Milsons Point (followed by an optional dinner for those staying). * **Route:** We will start at Watsons Bay - and continue the harborside walk through Rose Bay - Double bay and past Mrs Macquarie's Chair for some breaks, before continuing to the Harbor Bridge and finally wrapping up at Milsons Point - near the station/ferry wharf. * **Gratuity:** A $5 contribution is appreciated to help cover our Meetup subscription and group running costs.
