Fabulous bushwalk Epping to Hornsby via Lane Cove River & Berowra Creek 18km med

Fabulous walk on the edges of our city, Epping to Hornsby follows a section of the great north walk which runs from Sydney Cove to Newcastle all 250km of it! This long day walk follows the Lane Cove River and Berowra Creek. The walk mostly follows the iconic Great North Walk, keeping mostly to bushland. With a train station at each end and a chance to fill the tummy at Thornleigh, this is an enjoyable day out. Finally walk through the Blue gum forest and a big climb up to Hornsby Meet at Epping railway station Oxford Street side, walk is medium grade and 18km in length, a nice day out in the bush! Fantastic 22.3 km one-way trail from Hornsby to Mount Kuring-gai traverses Berowra Valley National Park and includes sections like the Blue Gum Walk and Tunks Ridge Reserve. Expect varied terrain with steep sections, particularly as you approach Mount Kuring-gai, where you'll encounter panoramic views. The route also passes by Fishponds and Berowra Creek. CAVES BEACH, GHOSTIES BEACH… Central Coast Coastal Adventure!!!

During my 3 Years of hosting **We Hike to the Bar** there's been quite a few jaw-dropping moments of scenery... **Ghosties Beach** and its caves is most likely the top moment of 2026. Legend Hiker Heidi (90+ hikes) and a few others mentioned some Newcastle hikes, and while researching - I just can't find a lot. If you have some suggestions, please send them to me. What did I find is a tad closer to Sydney, and this will be a gem of a 15kms coastal journey... **GHOSTIES BEACH - CAVES BEACH - SWANSEA HEADS** Low tide is 230pm (essential for Ghosties Beach caves), so here's how we'll hike **Swansea (north) to Catherine Hill Bay for lunch (cars parked here)... then finish with the short and beautiful Ghosties Beach Cave loop!** From AI (sorry, I hate using it), the highlights: * **Ghosties Beach Sea Cave:** A massive, dramatic rock tunnel and sea cave system located at the southern end of Ghosties Beach. (Note: It must be explored strictly during **low tide** for safe access). * **Pink Caves:** Vibrant, naturally pink-hued rock formations and coastal sea caves near Catherine Hill Bay. * **Scenic Coastline & Beaches:** Sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean and passes past several picturesque spots including Pinney Beach, Catherine Hill Bay, and Moonee Beach. * **Vantage Points:** Elevated headland views looking up and down the New South Wales coastline. We'll need drivers. Of course! We love you. I think good pick up points are Parramatta, Wolli Creek, and Chatswood. It's a 1hrs 20min drive from Chatswood. We'll start with those 3 locations and work from there. **Catherine Hill Bay Hotel "The Catho"** is a heritage-listed (from 1875) joint with really good food... as soon as you look at this pub, you won't forget it. **Garigal National Park- St Ives to Roseville - 15km** I would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land on which I walk, the Garigal people & pay respect to the Elders past, present & emerging. **🌳8.45am Meeting Place:** **[Gordon Station, Stand A.](https://tinyurl.com/4ykddcx8)** **🌳About:** This is a picturesque walk of the northern end of Garigal National Park with water views most of the way. It has a lot of shady parts along the creek too & is a good warm weather distance. A nice early finish gives you time to do something else on the day. **🌳Route:** From Gordon Station we catch the 197 bus for an 11 minute trip to our starting point in St Ives. We walk down a street and follow a track along Middle Harbour Creek to Davidson Park. To finish we cross Roseville Bridge to the bus stop. There's frequent buses back to the CBD or Chatswood. We should arrive at Roseville around 1.30pm. **🌳Distance:** 15km **🌳Type of walk:** Shady with well established bush tracks & fire trails. **🌳Difficulty:** Moderate. There are some technical, rocky & uneven sections. Total elevation is only 190m. **🌳Walking Pace:** We will maintain a steady pace and average 4-4.5 km per hour. **🌳Toilets:** Gordon station at the start & Davidson Park at the end. Great North Wak - Awesome Bushwalk from Chatswood to Thornleigh!

**This is a fabulous bush walk with plenty of picturesque sites to see along the way!** **The route follows the peaceful, non-tidal waters of the Lane Cove River, tracing the valley from the weir at Fullers Bridge all the way up to the northern watershed near Thornleigh.** **We meet outside Chatswood Train Station opposite McDonalds at 9.30am sharp.** **We start by walking through some local back streets to reach the Blue Gum Walking Track which will take us to the Lane Cove River National Park.** **We will then join the Great North Walk trail to Thornleigh.** **There are steeper sections and rocky dry riverbeds. The scenery is diverse - quintessential Aussie bush, honeycomb sandstone and mossy valleys. We will meander through this beautiful piece of quiet Aussie bush with shaded gullies and blue gums. We won’t even realize that Ryde and Macquarie Park are close by.** **There is a steep 100m climb at the end of the hike to take us to Thornleigh Oval and a further 15 minutes along suburban streets to reach Thornleigh Train Station.** **Please bring own lunch and snacks as there are no options to buy any food along the way.** **We will aim to finish at Thornleigh Train Station by 3.30pm.** **\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*** **DISTANCE: About 18 kms.** **GRADE: Medium, some rocky bits but mostly on established tracks. Taronga Zoo Wharf to Neutral Bay

It’s time to smell the roses and check out the jacarandas on this scenic walk. We start at Taronga Zoo Wharf and follow the coast past Bradleys Head, Sirius Cove, Mosman Bay, Cremorne Point and on to Neutral Bay viewing roses and jacarandas on the way. We will have lunch at The Oaks. Start location: Taronga Zoo Wharf. (Meet outside the wharf entrance.) Transport: The 9.50am F2 Taronga Zoo Ferry from Wharf 4 arrives at Taronga Zoo at 10.02am. We start walking at 10.05am. Distance: Whatever your GPS says at the end of the walk🤣 Terrain: Bush tracks, sealed roads and a couple of steep hills. Malabar Headland Walk

**Let's explore the Malabar Headland** Malabar Headland lies between Maroubra and Malabar beaches and offers spectacular coastal views, interesting rare flora and fauna, rocky sandstone outcrops and several historic military ruins. It is a great exploration for some easy and relaxed walking. The headland has two separate walks. The Western Escarpment walk cuts through the headland and the Boora Point walking track runs along the eastern coastline. We will do both walks. We'll meet on the southern corner of Mons Ave and Marine Parade in Maroubra Beach and make our way south through Arthur Byrne Reserve to start with the coastal part. The walk is approximately 7 km long and we will do it in a relaxed pace. Please bring along sturdy footwear, some parts of the walk are over rocky terrain. Also as always, a hat, sunscreen, drinking water and maybe some snacks as we may have a rest on the headland to enjoy the amazing ocean views. The walk starts and ends in Maroubra Beach, buses back to the city leave frequently from Marine Parade. GRATUITY: There will be a $2 gratuity for this walk in cash. Bondi to Rose Bay - Part 1 of Great Coastal Walks

Bondi to Rose Bay is a beautiful walk with great scenery. It is best to wear walking shoes or trail runners, as most of it is on public roads/paths. It starts easy, but those steps up and down after 15km or so are still a good work out! It is possible to walk back to the start from Rose Bay (approx 25 minute walk) There is also public transport back to the City, or (potential) car-pooling back to the start. 7:30am start on the beach side of Bondi Pavilion.
