Beautiful circular 4.5 mile walk only (not tour), which starts and ends at Baker Street Station. **Solar Eclipse Glasses will be issued to everyone on the walk** Solar Eclipse Glasses CE ISO Certified ISO 12312-2. London will not see a solar Eclipse this dramatic again until 2090! Please maybe bring warm clothes as on Primrose Hill for a while with less sunlight We aim to be at the top of Primrose Hill to watch the 90% Solar Eclipse. It is the most covered eclipse in the UK for 27 years. First contact of the Moon covering the Sun is supposed to be at 6.17pm and 90% coverage is supposed to be at 7.12pm If you wish to bring a small pack lunch we can sit looking at the wonderful view before heading off 2nd part of the walk back to Baker Street Underground Station DOGS ARE ALLOWED ON THIS WALK Join us for an amazing walk that includes Regents Park, Boating Lake, Regents Canal, and Primrose Hill for an amazing walk with incredible views overlooking London. Regent's Park is one of the Royal Parks of London, the park is Grade I (highest) listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens. The 166-hectare (410-acre) with open parkland, gardens and wonderful lake Regents Canal provides a link from the Paddington Arm of the Grand Union Canal, Paddington Basin in the West to the Limehouse Basin and the River Thames in East London. The canal is 8.6 miles (13.8 km) long. The Regent's Canal was built during the early 19th century after an Act of Parliament was passed in 1812. Noted architect John Nash was a director of the company that produced a masterplan for the Prince Regent to redevelop a large area of central North London Primrose Hill is a Grade II listed public park located north of Regent's Park in London, England and first opened to the public in 1842. It was named after the 64 metres (210 ft) natural hill in the centre of the park.The hill summit has a clear view of central London, as well as Hampstead and Belsize Park to the north. **Another Sunday, and for our fortnightly Summer walk - we’ve lined up a stunning route through some of the best walking spots in Central London** ☀️ Yep that's right, we'll be dusting off our hiking boots again and heading out on one of our favourite social walk routes through all three Royal Parks, Hyde Park, Green Park and St James Park 🌳 The event will start out by the Kensington Gardens Bandstand in Hyde Park and to kick things off - you'll be allocated a group/team for an initial mix of fun games. These are designed to get people talking and help you to get to know some of the other participants on the walk a little better 💬 We’ll then set off on our 2-3 hour walk across London, we'll catch glimpses of some of the most famous landmarks of London, such as Buckingham Palace and Horseguards Parade. From here we join the **Saxon Shore Way**, a historic coastal route named after the Roman forts that once guarded England’s shores. The path climbs onto dramatic sandstone cliffs that have been designated a **Site of Special Scientific Interest** for both their geological and biological importance. As we traverse the cliff tops, the sea views are spectacular, with France sometimes visible across the Channel. Along the way, we’ll learn how the cliffs have revealed dinosaur fossils and even crocodile bones from the Early Cretaceous Period, over 140 million years ago. The route then leads us inland to **Winchelsea**, a medieval port town founded in the 13th century. Once a thriving harbour, the sea has since retreated, leaving Winchelsea perched inland but still rich in history, with ancient walls, medieval cellars and atmospheric streets to explore. We finish in the enchanting town of **Rye**, one of England’s most beautifully preserved medieval gems. All round the North Sea "haven" is a universal word for a harbour: from the Norse *hofn* and Old English *haefen;* Germans say *hafen,* the Dutch *haven,* in Norwegian, Danish & Faroese it's *havn,* and here many harbour places are named *haven.* Leaving Brighton, there will be heights in the South Downs. Telscombe Tye is the highest point. Returning to the sea, Harbour Heights are Newhaven's white cliffs with a 1860's Palmerston fort and a nature reserve. Below is a small beach and the Hope Inn is a hospitable harbour-side place. Fish & chips in the inn. Perhaps a ship passing in the night, or at least a *Transmanche* ferry to France 🚢 TRAVEL Take the 9.15 train from London Bridge to BRIGHTON. George Sackville, who inhabited Hundred Acres Wood a hundred years before Winnie the Pooh, called his own court martial after visiting Minden in 1759, then found himself home in the wood sulking like Eeyore. This walk tours all the Pooh sights: Pooh Corner; Pooh Bridge; and the Hundred Acre Wood; before passing the hapless Lord's house on the wood's edge. Come along on Saturday 8th August for a day trip hiking in the New Forest! **About the day** The New Forest is an area of Hampshire, southern England which includes one of the largest remaining tracts of unenclosed pasture land, heathland and forest in southern England. It covers about 219 square miles. The New Forest was created as a royal forest by William I in about 1079 for the royal hunt, mainly of deer. Today, 90% of the forest is still owned by the crown. The forest is fantastic for spotting wildlife and also farm animals as the local people of the area have pre-existing rights of common: *'to turn horses and cattle out into the Forest to graze'*. They do this during the summer months, so we will hopefully see horses, ponies, donkeys, cattle and maybe some sheep whilst walking. The village where we will be starting and finishing the walk; Brockenhurst is right in the heart of the New Forest and as animals have right of way in the forest, its not uncommon to see ponies and cattle walking around the village. **The Walk** We will walk about 6-7 miles. A perennial favourite of the group is this stunning 8 to 9 mile Thames Path walk. Let's go with the flow! Please arrive by 10am to facilitate the purchase of group return train tickets for the 10.47am Elizabeth line train to Taplow that arrives at 11.24am. We leave for the platform at 10.35am. Train ticket : return to Taplow Or you may decide to drive. Meetup fee £8 payable in cash or £6 by Saturday in advance by bank transfer, details available upon request. No PayPal. The walk shall commence by 11.40am. You should bring packed lunch, water, snacks etc waterproof jacket and walking shoes / trainers. Also sunhat, sunglasses and suncream. At Windsor we shall have a drink at Browns before taking the really fun OPTIONAL 40 minute French Brothers boat trip around Windsor. We shall have an ice-cream too ! Getting back to London from Windsor is easy and would simply involve buying a small supplementary fare from Windsor & Eton Central train station to Slough. It is your responsibility to take note of all agreed times and to bide by them. You should have adequate and appropriate insurance for this type of activity and be able to walk 2.5 miles per hour.
