This is Surrey’s answer to the Three Peaks: a big, hilly, 27km endurance hike linking the three highest summits in Surrey: Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill and Box Hill in one demanding day. It is a proper physical test: long distance, repeated climbs, steep sections, fast-moving trails and over 760m of total ascent. That is comparable to climbing a major UK mountain, but packed into a tough day hike from London. We begin from Holmwood and climb first towards Leith Hill, the highest point in South East England at 294m. The summit is crowned by the 18th-century Gothic Leith Hill Tower, with far reaching views across the Weald, towards the South Downs and, on a clear day, back towards London. From there, we continue along ancient sandy trails and wooded ridges towards Holmbury Hill, a beautiful summit with the remains of an Iron Age hill fort and sweeping views over the surrounding Surrey countryside. The final major objective is Box Hill, one of the South East’s most famous walking landmarks. Its chalk slopes, steep climbs and classic viewpoints make it a fitting final peak after a long day across the Surrey Hills. Along the way we pass through a rich mix of woodland, ridgelines, open viewpoints and Denbies Wine Estate before completing one of Outdooraholics’ classic challenge hikes from London. This is not just a walk in Surrey. It is a full day endurance challenge and a brilliant stepping stone for bigger mountain adventures. **Toughness (Please Read):** This is a **very tough, long, and hilly hike** with over 700m of total ascent — comparable to climbing "Mount" Snowdon. Expect steep sections, some loose ground, and a short section where you need to use your hands it's so steep. The **pace will average 4.2–4.6 km/h** and **the hike will not be slowed down or cut short.** It is **not suitable for beginners or intermediate hikers**. Only experienced and fit walkers should join. If a participant is unable to keep pace or complete the hike, there are places they can arrange a taxi to leave the hike. If you have any doubts about your ability, we recommend choosing one of our less demanding hikes instead. 🧭 **Guide:** • Leader: [GRAHAM](https://www.outdooraholics.co.uk/MeetTheOutdooraholics.pdf) • Contact (hike day only): 07796 098487 šŸ½ļø **Food:** • Bring a packed lunch and hike snacks, it's a long hike • Pub visit after the hike (drinks optional) šŸŽ’**What to Bring** • Hiking boots/shoes • Water (2 litres minimum) • Packed lunch • Waterproofs (jacket and trousers) • Hat and gloves if cold • Train tickets are arranged – just meet us at the meeting point āš ļø **Safety** Your guide is a trained hike leader and Outdoor Activity First Aider ā“ **Want to Know More?** • [New to Our Trips?](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/new_to_our_day_hikes.pdf) (perfect for first-timers, answers ā€œwhat to expectā€) • [About Us](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/about_us.pdf) (who Outdooraholics are, credibility, history) • [FAQs](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/FAQ.pdf) (covers common queries) šŸ“² **Explore More &** **Stay Connected** [Day hikes list](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/hikesbygrade.pdf) šŸ‘£ [Calendar - All trips](https://www.meetup.com/outdooraholics/events/calendar/) šŸ“– [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/outdooraholics/) šŸ“ø [Facebook page](https://www.facebook.com/Outdooraholics) & [Photos group](https://www.facebook.com/groups/Outdooraholics) šŸ“„ **Terms and Conditions** By signing up or attending you agree to our [Terms and Conditions](https://outdooraholics.co.uk/TermsConditionsOutdooraholicsHikingUK.pdf) Ā© Outdooraholics Hiking UK Ltd 2026 E & OE

ā›°ļø Hiking Snowdon – The Highest Mountain in Wales

Sat, Jul 11, 5:45 AM
From London Social Hiking
4.8

################# **On this trip, we're going to stay in the UNESCO World Heritage town of Caernarfon – only a short walk from one of the most famous castles in Wales!** **We’ve created a list of [FAQs](https://drive.google.com/file/d/12gIZWTLfA3zQsx1fb0lpv1zOWP2vC5tq/view?usp=drive_link) to help answer your questions.** ################# The Snowdonia National Park boasts vast areas of natural beauty and unique scenery. It is also known as ā€œEryriā€, a Welsh name that can be translated as ā€œthe place of the eaglesā€. Covering 838 square miles, it is the **largest and oldest national park in Wales**. There are nine mountain ranges here and they cover over half of the national park’s surface. Departing from London early on Saturday morning, we'll head to **Snowdon – the tallest mountain in Wales**, at an elevation of 1085 metres above sea level. Starting from **Pen-y-Pass mountain pass**, we'll climb Snowdon via the **Pyg Track**, which offers one of the most popular and scenic routes to the summit. On our way, we'll enjoy exceptional views of the beautiful **glacial lakes of Llyn Llydaw and Glaslyn**, dramatic cliffs and the surrounding peaks of the Snowdon Massif mountain range. The descent is via the **Miners' Track**. It's so called as it was originally built to serve the Britannia Copper Mine on the slopes of Snowdon. After an initial steep descent, we'll follow an easy and gradual downhill path along the shores of beautiful lakes, past the historic mine buildings. After the hike, we’ll travel to the **medieval, UNESCO World Heritage town of Caernarfon** to check in to our hotel, enjoy dinner and relax. On Sunday, we'll visit the hidden gem – the Aber Valley on the north coast, with its spectacular cascade of waterfalls. The **Aber Falls** tumble down 40 metres from the Carneddau mountain range, and have earned the title of **the most ā€œInstagrammableā€ šŸ“ø waterfall in the UK**. We'll follow the **North Wales Path** along the scenic hillsides and enjoy superb views of the coastline and Lafan Sands. After the hike, we'll take a short drive back to Caernarfon, where you'll have time for lunch and also to visit the superb **UNESCO-listed Caernarfon Castle**. This large royal fortress was built on the orders of **King Edward I** of England during his conquest of Wales in the late **13th century**, and is recognised around the world as one of the **best-preserved examples of medieval military architecture**. **ITINERARY** **Saturday:** **06:45** Meet outside Hotel Novotel London West, 1 Shortlands, W6 8DR (a five-minute walk from Hammersmith Station) **07:00** Sharp departure **13:30-19:00** Hike to Snowdon via the Pyg and and Miners' Tracks (difficulty: [Difficult](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BMjvqhAAdSeCdyzLPHs0z04_e2TiKdci/view?usp=sharing), distance: 12km, ascent: 810m) **19:30** Check-in at Premier Inn Caernarfon Hotel, dinner and free time **Sunday:** **07:00** Breakfast **08:00** Departure **08:30Ā-12:00** Hike to the Aber Falls (difficulty: [Easy](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BMjvqhAAdSeCdyzLPHs0z04_e2TiKdci/view?usp=sharing), distance: 11km, ascent: 320m) **12:30-14:45** Lunch in Caernarfon, free time to visit the medieval UNESCO-listed Caernarfon Castle and explore souvenir shops **14:45** Departure **21:00** London, Hammersmith **DIFFICULTY & EQUIPMENT** Please note that this trip requires a good level of fitness.
